JUNE 24 – The Power of Listening and Building

“The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.” — Proverbs 18:17

“And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze…” — Exodus 31:3-4

In Proverbs 18:17, we learn that first impressions or the initial arguments might seem convincing, but it’s important to hear both sides before making a judgment. Whether it’s a disagreement with a friend or a situation where you feel conflicted, it’s wise to listen carefully to both perspectives before forming an opinion. It reminds us that fairness and patience lead to wiser decisions.

In Exodus 31, we read about Bezalel, whom God filled with His Spirit to give him the skills necessary to craft the tabernacle and all its elements. God gave him wisdom, knowledge, and the ability to create beautiful things. This passage shows us that our talents, whether in art, sports, music, or other areas, are gifts from God. He equips us to build and create, not just for our own benefit but for His glory and the good of others.

Both of these scriptures challenge us to think beyond ourselves. Proverbs 18:17 teaches the value of hearing others out, and Exodus 31 encourages us to use the talents God has given us to make something meaningful.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Listen Fairly: Do you tend to jump to conclusions before hearing both sides of a story? How can you practice being more patient and fair in situations where you’re forming an opinion or resolving a conflict?

2. Use Your Gifts: God has given you talents for a reason. How can you use your skills and abilities, whether big or small, to serve others and bring glory to Him?

3. Building for a Purpose: Just as Bezalel built the tabernacle for God’s purposes, how can you build your life, relationships, and passions in a way that honors God and serves those around you?

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for the wisdom You give us to listen carefully and consider both sides of a situation. I pray that You help me use the talents and skills You’ve blessed me with to build things that honor You and help others. Help me build my life on Your truth and use my abilities for Your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
