“All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit.” — Proverbs 16:2 (ESV)

“Save me, O God, by your name, and vindicate me by your might.” — Psalm 54:1 (ESV)

“But our sufficiency is from God, who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant.” — 2 Corinthians 3:6 (ESV)

It’s easy to look at yourself and think, “I’m doing okay,” or “I’ve got this handled.” Proverbs 16:2 reminds us that what we see in ourselves isn’t always the full picture—God sees our hearts. That can feel scary, especially when you’re trying to make good choices at school, with friends, or on social media. But here’s the good news: Psalm 54 shows us that we don’t have to rely on our own strength or perfection. We can call on God for rescue and guidance. And in 2 Corinthians 3, Paul reminds us that God equips us for the challenges and responsibilities He gives us; we aren’t left to figure it out alone.

When you start to measure yourself by what others see or by your own limited view, it can be easy to get discouraged or prideful. But God’s perspective is different—He knows your struggles, your intentions, and your potential. And He offers His help so you don’t have to carry life’s challenges on your own. Your heart matters more than your image, and God is always ready to guide, strengthen, and empower you.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Heart vs. Image: Are you more concerned about what others think of you or what God knows about your heart (Proverbs 16:2)?

2. Calling for Help: When was the last time you asked God to rescue or guide you in a tough situation (Psalm 54:1)?

3. God’s Strength, Not Yours: How can remembering that God equips you (2 Corinthians 3:6) change the way you approach challenges, responsibilities, or even mistakes?

BOTTOM LINE

God sees your heart and equips you for life—trust Him more than your own perspective or others’ opinions.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for seeing my heart even when I don’t. Help me to trust Your perspective over my own, and to rely on Your strength in every challenge I face. Teach me to seek Your guidance, be honest with You about my struggles, and live with confidence in Your empowerment. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

00:00:02,440 –> 00:00:05,800
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we
have devotional conversations

2
00:00:06,120 –> 00:00:08,280
rooted in Scripture and relevant
for today.

3
00:00:10,280 –> 00:00:14,680
May 15th heart Check.
Living beyond appearances Here’s

4
00:00:14,680 –> 00:00:16,480
a question worth sitting with
for a moment.

5
00:00:16,720 –> 00:00:19,520
How often do you perform for an
audience that isn’t there?

6
00:00:19,840 –> 00:00:23,880
You craft a post just right.
You choose your words carefully

7
00:00:23,880 –> 00:00:25,880
in a group so you come across a
certain way.

8
00:00:26,440 –> 00:00:29,600
You tell yourself you’re doing
OK because from the outside

9
00:00:29,840 –> 00:00:33,880
things look fine.
We spend so much energy managing

10
00:00:33,880 –> 00:00:37,360
how we appear to others and
sometimes even to ourselves,

11
00:00:37,800 –> 00:00:40,720
that we forget someone sees past
all of it completely.

12
00:00:41,720 –> 00:00:45,800
Proverbs chapter 16 verse 2 says
all the ways of a man are pure

13
00:00:45,800 –> 00:00:48,400
in his own eyes, but the Lord
weighs the spirit.

14
00:00:49,080 –> 00:00:53,000
That’s a sobering verse because
it’s describing something we all

15
00:00:53,000 –> 00:00:55,200
do.
Convince ourselves we’re fine,

16
00:00:56,320 –> 00:00:59,440
Justify our choices, see
ourselves through the most

17
00:00:59,440 –> 00:01:02,600
flattering possible lens.
And the verse doesn’t say that

18
00:01:02,600 –> 00:01:05,080
to shame us.
It says it to wake us up.

19
00:01:06,120 –> 00:01:09,040
Because God doesn’t see the
polished version we present.

20
00:01:09,440 –> 00:01:13,120
He sees the actual condition of
our hearts, and that matters

21
00:01:13,120 –> 00:01:16,320
infinitely more.
But here’s the grace in that

22
00:01:16,320 –> 00:01:18,640
truth.
God seeing your heart fully

23
00:01:18,640 –> 00:01:21,960
isn’t a reason to panic.
It’s actually a reason to run to

24
00:01:21,960 –> 00:01:25,280
Him because He already knows
everything and still invites you

25
00:01:25,280 –> 00:01:28,880
close.
Psalm 54, verse one is that kind

26
00:01:28,880 –> 00:01:31,280
of prayer.
Raw, unfiltered, desperate.

27
00:01:31,640 –> 00:01:35,120
Save me, oh God by your name,
and vindicate me by your might.

28
00:01:35,640 –> 00:01:38,160
There’s no pretending here, no
dressing it up.

29
00:01:39,200 –> 00:01:42,320
Just a person who knows they
need God and isn’t too proud to

30
00:01:42,320 –> 00:01:45,280
say so.
That kind of honesty before God

31
00:01:45,280 –> 00:01:47,960
is actually a sign of strength,
not weakness.

32
00:01:48,400 –> 00:01:52,440
It’s choosing reality over
performance, and it’s exactly

33
00:01:52,440 –> 00:01:54,440
the kind of prayer God responds
to.

34
00:01:55,560 –> 00:01:58,960
Then Second Corinthians chapter
3, verse 6 add something

35
00:01:58,960 –> 00:02:01,880
powerful.
But our sufficiency is from God,

36
00:02:01,880 –> 00:02:06,080
who has made us competent to be
ministers of a new covenant.

37
00:02:06,600 –> 00:02:09,800
Your adequacy doesn’t come from
how well you manage your image.

38
00:02:10,840 –> 00:02:13,800
It doesn’t come from keeping up
appearances, getting the right

39
00:02:13,800 –> 00:02:17,040
grades, saying the right things,
or being liked by the right

40
00:02:17,040 –> 00:02:19,160
people.
It comes from God.

41
00:02:19,520 –> 00:02:22,920
He has made you competent.
He has equipped you for what

42
00:02:22,920 –> 00:02:26,200
He’s called you to, not because
you’ve got it all together, but

43
00:02:26,200 –> 00:02:30,400
because He does.
This matters so much, especially

44
00:02:30,400 –> 00:02:33,240
for young people navigating a
world that is constantly

45
00:02:33,240 –> 00:02:35,160
evaluating and ranking
everything.

46
00:02:35,720 –> 00:02:37,800
The pressure to measure up is
relentless.

47
00:02:38,840 –> 00:02:41,480
And when you tie your sense of
worth to how others perceive

48
00:02:41,480 –> 00:02:45,200
you, you’ll be on a roller
coaster that never stops because

49
00:02:45,200 –> 00:02:47,400
people’s opinions shift
constantly.

50
00:02:47,920 –> 00:02:49,880
But God’s view of you doesn’t
fluctuate.

51
00:02:50,880 –> 00:02:54,440
He sees you truly, loves you
completely, and equips you

52
00:02:54,440 –> 00:02:56,600
specifically for the life He’s
designed for you.

53
00:02:57,680 –> 00:03:00,640
So what would it look like to
care more about what God sees in

54
00:03:00,640 –> 00:03:03,120
your heart than what others see
on the surface?

55
00:03:04,120 –> 00:03:07,400
What would change if you brought
your real self to God every day?

56
00:03:07,640 –> 00:03:10,960
The struggling parts, the
uncertain parts, the parts you

57
00:03:10,960 –> 00:03:14,000
usually hide, and trusted Him to
work with all of it.

58
00:03:15,040 –> 00:03:18,240
That’s not an invitation to give
up on doing well or being your

59
00:03:18,240 –> 00:03:20,760
best.
It’s an invitation to be honest,

60
00:03:21,760 –> 00:03:24,840
to stop performing and start
living from a place of genuine

61
00:03:24,840 –> 00:03:28,520
relationship with God, where His
strength fills in every gap your

62
00:03:28,520 –> 00:03:31,280
own ability can’t cover.
Let’s pray.

63
00:03:32,360 –> 00:03:35,640
Heavenly Father, thank you for
seeing me fully and loving me

64
00:03:35,640 –> 00:03:38,360
completely.
Help me to stop hiding behind

65
00:03:38,360 –> 00:03:41,560
appearances and start coming to
You with honesty about what’s

66
00:03:41,560 –> 00:03:45,440
really going on in my heart,
where I’ve been relying on my

67
00:03:45,440 –> 00:03:48,120
own perspective or chasing
approval from others.

68
00:03:48,400 –> 00:03:51,480
Redirect me to You.
I want to live from a place of

69
00:03:51,480 –> 00:03:54,920
genuine trust in your strength,
not a performance of my own.

70
00:03:56,000 –> 00:03:59,600
Make me the person you’ve called
me to be from the inside out, in

71
00:03:59,720 –> 00:04:03,640
Jesus name, Amen.
What if the battles hitting your

72
00:04:03,640 –> 00:04:06,880
family are not random and your
home can become a place where

73
00:04:06,880 –> 00:04:08,920
darkness loses every right to
stay?

00:05:11,520 –> 00:05:16,040
Proverbs Chapter 16 Verse 2
World English Bible All the ways

91
00:05:16,040 –> 00:05:18,680
of a man are clean in his own
eyes, but Yahweh weighs the

92
00:05:18,680 –> 00:05:22,360
motives.
Psalm Chapter 54 World English

93
00:05:22,360 –> 00:05:27,160
Bible Save me God, by your name
vindicate me in your might.

94
00:05:27,520 –> 00:05:31,120
Hear my prayer, God, listen to
the words of my mouth, for

95
00:05:31,120 –> 00:05:32,880
strangers have risen up against
me.

96
00:05:33,320 –> 00:05:35,440
Violent men have sought after my
soul.

97
00:05:35,680 –> 00:05:37,440
They haven’t set God before
them.

98
00:05:38,520 –> 00:05:42,240
Behold, God is my helper.
The Lord is the one who sustains

99
00:05:42,240 –> 00:05:44,760
my soul.
He will repay the evil to my

100
00:05:44,760 –> 00:05:47,400
enemies.
Destroy them in your truth with

101
00:05:47,400 –> 00:05:49,680
a free will offering I will
sacrifice to you.

102
00:05:50,840 –> 00:05:54,160
I will give thanks to your name
Yahweh, for it is good, for He

103
00:05:54,160 –> 00:05:55,880
has delivered me out of all
trouble.

104
00:05:56,240 –> 00:05:58,640
My eye has seen triumph over my
enemies.

105
00:05:59,040 –> 00:06:03,840
Second Corinthians Chapter 3
World English Bible Are we

106
00:06:03,840 –> 00:06:07,280
beginning again to commend
ourselves, or do we need as do

107
00:06:07,280 –> 00:06:10,240
some letters of commendation to
you or from you?

108
00:06:11,360 –> 00:06:14,720
You are our letter, written in
our hearts, known and read by

109
00:06:14,720 –> 00:06:18,360
all men, being revealed that you
are a letter of Christ served by

110
00:06:18,360 –> 00:06:21,360
us, written not with ink, but
with the Spirit of the living

111
00:06:21,360 –> 00:06:25,960
God, not in tablets of stone,
but in tablets that are hearts

112
00:06:25,960 –> 00:06:28,960
of flesh.
Such confidence we have through

113
00:06:28,960 –> 00:06:32,680
Christ toward God, not that we
are sufficient of ourselves to

114
00:06:32,680 –> 00:06:36,160
account anything as from
ourselves, but our sufficiency

115
00:06:36,160 –> 00:06:40,400
is from God, who also made us
sufficient as servants of a new

116
00:06:40,400 –> 00:06:43,400
covenant, not of the letter, but
of the Spirit.

117
00:06:44,440 –> 00:06:47,000
For the letter kills, but the
Spirit gives life.

118
00:06:48,040 –> 00:06:51,320
But if the service of death
written, engraved on stones,

119
00:06:51,520 –> 00:06:54,760
came with glory, so that the
children of Israel could not

120
00:06:54,760 –> 00:06:58,200
look steadfastly on the face of
Moses for the glory of his face,

121
00:06:59,240 –> 00:07:02,400
which was passing away, won’t
service of the Spirit be with

122
00:07:02,400 –> 00:07:05,360
much more glory?
For if the service of

123
00:07:05,360 –> 00:07:09,200
condemnation has glory, the
service of righteousness exceeds

124
00:07:09,200 –> 00:07:13,080
much more in glory.
For most certainly that which

125
00:07:13,080 –> 00:07:15,800
has been made glorious has not
been made glorious in this

126
00:07:15,800 –> 00:07:19,000
respect by reason of the glory
that surpasses.

127
00:07:20,000 –> 00:07:23,480
For if that which passes away
was with glory, much more that

128
00:07:23,480 –> 00:07:27,960
which remains is in glory.
Having therefore such a hope, we

129
00:07:27,960 –> 00:07:31,680
use great boldness of speech,
and not as Moses who put a veil

130
00:07:31,680 –> 00:07:35,240
on his face, that the children
of Israel wouldn’t look

131
00:07:35,240 –> 00:07:39,840
steadfastly on the end of that
which was passing away, but

132
00:07:39,840 –> 00:07:43,040
their minds were hardened.
For until this very day, at the

133
00:07:43,040 –> 00:07:46,640
reading of the old covenant, the
same veil remains, because in

134
00:07:46,640 –> 00:07:51,000
Christ it passes away.
But to this day, when Moses is

135
00:07:51,000 –> 00:07:55,040
red, a veil lies on their heart.
But whenever someone turns to

136
00:07:55,040 –> 00:07:56,960
the Lord, the veil is taken
away.

137
00:07:58,000 –> 00:08:01,200
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and
where the Spirit of the Lord is,

138
00:08:01,400 –> 00:08:05,160
there is liberty.
But we all with unveiled face,

139
00:08:05,160 –> 00:08:08,480
seeing the glory of the Lord as
in a mirror, are transformed

140
00:08:08,480 –> 00:08:12,360
into the same image from glory
to glory, even as from the Lord

141
00:08:12,480 –> 00:08:16,720
the Spirit.
