“The heart of the righteous ponders how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil. The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer of the righteous.” — Proverbs 15:28–29 (ESV)
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.” — 1 Corinthians 13:4–5 (ESV)
“Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.” — 1 Corinthians 13:7 (ESV)

It’s easy to speak first and think later—especially when emotions run high or when you’re trying to fit in with friends. Proverbs 15:28–29 reminds us that what comes out of our mouths reflects what’s in our hearts. On the other hand, 1 Corinthians 13 shows us what love looks like in action: patience, kindness, humility, and endurance. The truth is, words without love can hurt, divide, or leave people feeling unloved. But words spoken with a heart of love can encourage, heal, and bring people closer to God.
Every conversation you have is a chance to practice love in real time. It’s not just about saying nice words—it’s about showing understanding, being patient, and sometimes holding back when it would be easier to react. Love isn’t always flashy; sometimes it’s quietly listening, gently correcting, or consistently being there for someone when they need you.

THINK ABOUT IT
1. Heart Check: Before you speak, ask yourself: “Are my words rooted in love?” How does your heart influence what you say to friends, family, or even strangers?
2. Patience in Action: Love is patient and kind (1 Corinthians 13:4). How can you show patience in situations that normally frustrate you, like disagreements at school or misunderstandings with friends?
3. Enduring Love: How can you bear, believe, hope, and endure in your relationships (1 Corinthians 13:7), even when it’s difficult or when others don’t seem to appreciate it?

BOTTOM LINE
When your heart is filled with love, your words and actions reflect God’s kindness, patience, and grace to the world.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for teaching me that love is more than words—it’s a way of living. Help me to speak and act with patience, kindness, and humility, and to show Your love in every interaction. Guard my heart so that my words bring encouragement and healing, not harm. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
00:00:02,440 –> 00:00:05,800
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we
have devotional conversations
2
00:00:06,120 –> 00:00:08,280
rooted in Scripture and relevant
for today.
3
00:00:10,280 –> 00:00:12,760
May 10th.
The heart behind the words.
4
00:00:13,120 –> 00:00:15,360
Have you ever said something in
the heat of the moment and
5
00:00:15,360 –> 00:00:17,280
immediately wished you could
take it back?
6
00:00:18,320 –> 00:00:22,040
Maybe it was a sharp reply to a
parent, a sarcastic comment to a
7
00:00:22,040 –> 00:00:25,360
friend, or something you typed
online without really thinking.
8
00:00:25,840 –> 00:00:28,840
We’ve all been there.
And here’s the thing.
9
00:00:29,000 –> 00:00:32,080
Those moments reveal something
deeper than just a bad day.
10
00:00:32,560 –> 00:00:35,360
They reveal what’s actually
going on inside our hearts.
11
00:00:35,920 –> 00:00:39,960
Proverbs chapter 15, verses 28
to 29 puts it plainly.
12
00:00:41,000 –> 00:00:43,720
The heart of the righteous
ponders how to answer, but the
13
00:00:43,720 –> 00:00:45,680
mouth of the wicked pours out
evil.
14
00:00:46,080 –> 00:00:49,240
The Lord is far from the wicked,
but He hears the prayer of the
15
00:00:49,240 –> 00:00:51,400
righteous.
Did you catch that?
16
00:00:52,360 –> 00:00:55,800
The righteous person pauses.
They think before they speak,
17
00:00:56,240 –> 00:00:59,280
not because they’re slow or
unsure, but because they care
18
00:00:59,280 –> 00:01:00,960
about what their words do to
people.
19
00:01:01,440 –> 00:01:05,920
And God notices that he draws
close to a heart that’s careful,
20
00:01:06,120 –> 00:01:08,960
that’s considerate, that’s
rooted in something good.
21
00:01:10,000 –> 00:01:14,000
Now flip over to 1st Corinthians
chapter 13, one of the most
22
00:01:14,000 –> 00:01:17,280
famous passages in the Bible,
and you might think it’s just a
23
00:01:17,280 –> 00:01:21,080
wedding verse, but honestly,
it’s one of the most practical
24
00:01:21,080 –> 00:01:23,400
guides to everyday life you’ll
ever find.
25
00:01:24,000 –> 00:01:27,520
Verses four and five say love is
patient and kind.
26
00:01:27,800 –> 00:01:31,560
Love does not envy or boast.
It is not arrogant or rude.
27
00:01:32,600 –> 00:01:34,440
It does not insist on its own
way.
28
00:01:34,520 –> 00:01:36,440
It is not irritable or
resentful.
29
00:01:36,960 –> 00:01:41,160
And then verse 7 adds love bears
all things, believes all things,
30
00:01:41,160 –> 00:01:43,280
hopes all things, endures all
things.
31
00:01:43,840 –> 00:01:47,360
That’s not a soft, sentimental
kind of love.
32
00:01:48,440 –> 00:01:51,560
That’s a tough daily.
Choose it even when it costs you
33
00:01:51,560 –> 00:01:54,080
kind of love.
And here’s what makes it so
34
00:01:54,080 –> 00:01:56,200
real.
It shows up in conversation
35
00:01:56,640 –> 00:01:58,600
every single day.
You’re in dozens of
36
00:01:58,600 –> 00:02:01,800
interactions.
A group chat blowing up with
37
00:02:01,800 –> 00:02:06,240
drama, a classroom argument that
gets personal, a family dinner
38
00:02:06,240 –> 00:02:08,160
where someone says something
that stings.
39
00:02:09,240 –> 00:02:12,400
In every one of those moments,
love is either present or it
40
00:02:12,400 –> 00:02:14,600
isn’t, and the difference is
felt.
41
00:02:15,640 –> 00:02:17,640
Think about someone in your life
right now.
42
00:02:18,040 –> 00:02:21,200
Maybe a friend who’s been a
little distant, or a sibling
43
00:02:21,200 –> 00:02:23,880
who’s been getting on your
nerves, or a classmate you’ve
44
00:02:23,880 –> 00:02:27,080
been quietly judging.
What would it look like to
45
00:02:27,080 –> 00:02:29,920
respond to them with patience
instead of frustration?
46
00:02:30,360 –> 00:02:32,400
With kindness instead of
sarcasm?
47
00:02:32,840 –> 00:02:35,760
With a belief that sees the best
in them even when they’re not
48
00:02:35,760 –> 00:02:38,800
showing their best?
It’s not easy.
49
00:02:38,960 –> 00:02:42,440
Nobody said it was.
But First Corinthians 13 doesn’t
50
00:02:42,440 –> 00:02:45,240
describe love as a feeling you
either have or you don’t.
51
00:02:45,600 –> 00:02:48,000
It describes love as a series of
choices.
52
00:02:48,480 –> 00:02:51,360
Patient.
That’s a choice kind.
53
00:02:51,360 –> 00:02:54,160
That’s a choice.
Not insisting on your own way.
54
00:02:54,200 –> 00:02:56,960
That is absolutely a choice, and
often a hard one.
55
00:02:57,960 –> 00:03:01,160
But each of those choices made
one at a time, shapes you into
56
00:03:01,160 –> 00:03:04,360
someone whose words actually
carry weight, someone people
57
00:03:04,360 –> 00:03:08,720
trust, someone who reflects
God’s character in the most
58
00:03:08,720 –> 00:03:12,960
ordinary moments of life.
And the beautiful thing is, when
59
00:03:12,960 –> 00:03:16,240
your heart is being shaped by
that kind of love, it changes
60
00:03:16,240 –> 00:03:18,000
what comes out of your mouth
naturally.
61
00:03:18,480 –> 00:03:21,200
You don’t have to perform it.
You don’t have to fake it.
62
00:03:22,240 –> 00:03:25,520
It starts to flow from a place
that’s been quietly transformed
63
00:03:25,520 –> 00:03:28,800
by spending time with God, by
letting His words sit in your
64
00:03:28,800 –> 00:03:31,440
heart, by asking Him to make you
more like Him.
65
00:03:32,040 –> 00:03:36,200
Your words have power.
They can wound or they can heal.
66
00:03:36,640 –> 00:03:39,800
They can push people away or
draw them closer, closer to you
67
00:03:40,040 –> 00:03:43,680
and closer to God.
So the real question isn’t just
68
00:03:43,680 –> 00:03:46,760
what should I say.
The deeper question is, what is
69
00:03:46,760 –> 00:03:50,000
my heart full of right now?
Because whatever fills it will
70
00:03:50,000 –> 00:03:52,360
eventually overflow.
Let’s pray.
71
00:03:53,400 –> 00:03:56,760
Heavenly Father, thank you for
reminding me that love is not
72
00:03:56,760 –> 00:04:00,080
just a feeling, it’s a way of
living every single day.
73
00:04:01,160 –> 00:04:04,120
I know my words don’t always
reflect the best of what I want
74
00:04:04,120 –> 00:04:07,680
to be, and I’m grateful that
Your grace covers those moments.
75
00:04:08,120 –> 00:04:10,080
Help me to slow down before I
speak.
76
00:04:11,120 –> 00:04:14,680
Help me to choose patience when
I want to react, kindness when I
77
00:04:14,680 –> 00:04:17,680
want to be sharp, and humility
when I want to be right.
78
00:04:18,720 –> 00:04:21,640
Fill my heart so full of your
love that it naturally pours
79
00:04:21,640 –> 00:04:26,120
into the way I talk to people,
my friends, my family, strangers
80
00:04:26,160 –> 00:04:27,960
and even people who are hard to
love.
81
00:04:28,520 –> 00:04:33,000
Guard my tongue and grow my
heart in Jesus name, Amen.
82
00:04:33,600 –> 00:04:36,840
What if the battles hitting your
family are not random and your
83
00:04:36,840 –> 00:04:39,840
home can become a place where
darkness loses every right to
84
00:04:39,840 –> 00:04:42,720
stay?

with God in today’s three-year
100
00:05:39,880 –> 00:05:45,360
Bible reading plan.
Proverbs Chapter 15 Verses 28 to
101
00:05:45,360 –> 00:05:50,360
29 World English Bible The heart
of the righteous weighs answers,
102
00:05:50,640 –> 00:05:52,960
but the mouth of the wicked
gushes out evil.
103
00:05:54,000 –> 00:05:57,040
Yahweh is far from the wicked,
but he hears the prayer of the
104
00:05:57,040 –> 00:06:00,240
righteous.
First Corinthians Chapter 13
105
00:06:00,480 –> 00:06:04,840
World English Bible If I speak
with the languages of men and of
106
00:06:04,880 –> 00:06:09,040
angels, but don’t have love, I
have become sounding brass or a
107
00:06:09,040 –> 00:06:12,720
clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy
108
00:06:12,840 –> 00:06:16,080
and know all mysteries and all
knowledge, and if I have all
109
00:06:16,080 –> 00:06:19,600
faith so as to remove mountains,
but don’t have love, I am
110
00:06:19,600 –> 00:06:22,760
nothing.
If I give away all my goods to
111
00:06:22,760 –> 00:06:26,160
feed the poor, and if I give my
body to be burned but don’t have
112
00:06:26,160 –> 00:06:30,040
love, it profits me nothing.
Love is patient and is kind.
113
00:06:30,520 –> 00:06:34,800
Love doesn’t envy.
Love doesn’t brag, is not proud,
114
00:06:34,960 –> 00:06:37,760
doesn’t behave itself
inappropriately, doesn’t seek
115
00:06:37,760 –> 00:06:41,160
its own way, is not provoked,
takes no account of evil,
116
00:06:41,480 –> 00:06:45,200
doesn’t rejoice in
unrighteousness, but rejoices
117
00:06:45,200 –> 00:06:48,360
with the truth, bears all
things, believes all things,
118
00:06:48,440 –> 00:06:50,760
hopes all things, and endures
all things.
119
00:06:51,840 –> 00:06:54,680
Love never fails.
But where there are prophecies,
120
00:06:54,680 –> 00:06:57,160
they will be done away with.
Where there are various
121
00:06:57,160 –> 00:07:00,200
languages, they will cease.
Where there is knowledge, it
122
00:07:00,200 –> 00:07:04,520
will be done away with, for we
know in part and we prophecy in
123
00:07:04,520 –> 00:07:06,680
part.
But when that which is complete
124
00:07:06,680 –> 00:07:09,880
has come, then that which is
partial will be done away with.
125
00:07:10,960 –> 00:07:14,840
When I was a child, I spoke as a
child, I felt as a child, I
126
00:07:14,840 –> 00:07:17,920
thought as a child.
Now that I have become a man, I
127
00:07:17,920 –> 00:07:21,840
have put away childish things.
For now we see in a mirror
128
00:07:21,840 –> 00:07:26,000
dimly, but then face to face.
Now I know in part, but then I
129
00:07:26,000 –> 00:07:28,640
will know fully, even as I was
also fully known.
130
00:07:29,120 –> 00:07:32,000
But now faith, hope and love
remain these three.
131
00:07:33,000 –> 00:07:38,000
The greatest of these is love.
Thanks for joining us on Bible
