“Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked, when it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.” — Proverbs 3:25–26

“And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.” — Matthew 7:26

________________________________________

Ever watched a sandcastle get washed away by a wave? No matter how much time or talent went into building it, if it’s not on something solid, it won’t last. Jesus said that’s exactly what life is like when we ignore His words. In Matthew 7, He describes two types of people—those who build their lives on His truth and those who don’t. One house stands through storms; the other crumbles.

The same goes for fear and uncertainty. Proverbs 3 reminds us not to freak out when life suddenly gets messy—because God Himself will be our confidence. That doesn’t mean storms won’t come. They will. But when your foundation is Jesus, fear won’t take you down, and failure won’t define you.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. What Are You Building On? Are you hearing Jesus’ words and doing them? Or are you just listening and forgetting? A strong life comes from following Him, not just knowing about Him.

2. Don’t Let Fear Run You: Proverbs says don’t be afraid of sudden terror. Why? Because when the Lord is your confidence, fear doesn’t get the final word.

3. Storm-Tested Faith: When pressure hits—stress at school, family drama, inner battles—do you crumble, or do you stand strong? What are some areas where you need to dig deeper into Jesus’ words?

________________________________________

BOTTOM LINE

Your life won’t fall apart when it’s built on Jesus, even if everything around you does.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for being the solid rock I can build my life on. Teach me to not just hear Your words, but to actually live them out. When fear or chaos tries to shake me, help me trust that You are holding me steady. I want a faith that stands strong, no matter what comes. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

1
00:00:02,440 –> 00:00:05,800
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we
have devotional conversations

2
00:00:06,120 –> 00:00:10,840
rooted in scripture and relevant
for today, January 10th.

3
00:00:11,320 –> 00:00:14,440
Stay solid when life shakes.
Have you ever built something

4
00:00:14,440 –> 00:00:17,560
you were proud of, only to watch
it fall apart when pressure hit?

5
00:00:18,080 –> 00:00:21,200
Maybe it was a plan that didn’t
work out, a relationship that

6
00:00:21,200 –> 00:00:24,360
didn’t last, or confidence that
crumbled the moment things got

7
00:00:24,360 –> 00:00:26,520
hard.
Life has a way of shaking what

8
00:00:26,520 –> 00:00:29,880
we build, and when it does, it
quickly reveals whether our

9
00:00:29,880 –> 00:00:32,479
foundation was solid or just
convenient.

10
00:00:32,880 –> 00:00:35,920
Jesus paints A vivid picture in
Matthew Chapter 7.

11
00:00:36,320 –> 00:00:38,920
He talks about two people who
both hear his words.

12
00:00:39,400 –> 00:00:41,920
On the outside.
They look the same, but there’s

13
00:00:41,920 –> 00:00:44,760
one key difference.
One actually lives out what

14
00:00:44,760 –> 00:00:46,720
Jesus says and the other
doesn’t.

15
00:00:47,080 –> 00:00:50,480
Jesus says the one who hears his
words and does not do them is

16
00:00:50,480 –> 00:00:52,480
like a man who built his house
on sand.

17
00:00:53,040 –> 00:00:55,960
When the storms came, and they
did, the house collapsed.

18
00:00:56,360 –> 00:00:59,200
It wasn’t the storm that caused
the failure, it was the

19
00:00:59,200 –> 00:01:03,000
foundation.
Proverbs chapter 3 verses 25 to

20
00:01:03,000 –> 00:01:06,680
26 speak straight into our fear
when life feels unstable.

21
00:01:07,000 –> 00:01:09,720
Do not be afraid of sudden
terror or of the ruin of the

22
00:01:09,720 –> 00:01:13,000
wicked when it comes, for the
Lord will be your confidence and

23
00:01:13,000 –> 00:01:14,560
will keep your foot from being
caught.

24
00:01:15,280 –> 00:01:18,440
Notice what God doesn’t say.
He doesn’t say trouble won’t

25
00:01:18,440 –> 00:01:20,280
come.
He says you don’t have to be

26
00:01:20,280 –> 00:01:22,040
afraid when it does.
Why?

27
00:01:22,040 –> 00:01:24,880
Because the Lord himself is your
confidence, not your

28
00:01:24,880 –> 00:01:27,960
circumstances, not your
emotions, not how strong you

29
00:01:27,960 –> 00:01:30,480
feel that day.
God is the one keeping you

30
00:01:30,480 –> 00:01:33,040
steady.
Storms will come, pressure will

31
00:01:33,040 –> 00:01:36,840
rise, unexpected news will hit.
Fear will try to get loud.

32
00:01:37,200 –> 00:01:40,400
But when your life is anchored
in Jesus, when his words shape

33
00:01:40,400 –> 00:01:43,680
your choices, your reactions,
your habits and your values, you

34
00:01:43,680 –> 00:01:46,400
don’t fall apart.
When things shake, you may bend,

35
00:01:46,840 –> 00:01:48,800
you may feel the wind, but you
stand.

36
00:01:49,160 –> 00:01:52,440
Staying solid isn’t about
pretending everything is fine.

37
00:01:52,920 –> 00:01:55,720
It’s about trusting the one who
holds you when everything isn’t.

38
00:01:56,080 –> 00:01:59,080
It’s about choosing obedience
over convenience, truth over

39
00:01:59,080 –> 00:02:02,160
feelings, and faith over fear.
Especially when it’s hard.

40
00:02:02,640 –> 00:02:05,720
When Jesus is your foundation,
chaos doesn’t get the final

41
00:02:05,720 –> 00:02:07,320
word.
Let’s pray.

42
00:02:07,680 –> 00:02:10,800
Heavenly Father, thank you for
being the solid foundation my

43
00:02:10,800 –> 00:02:13,880
life can stand on.
Teach me not just to hear your

44
00:02:13,880 –> 00:02:17,480
words, but to live them out
daily when fear rises and life

45
00:02:17,480 –> 00:02:19,840
feels unstable.
Help me trust you as my

46
00:02:19,840 –> 00:02:23,240
confidence and my security.
Strengthen my faith so I can

47
00:02:23,240 –> 00:02:25,800
stand firm no matter what shakes
around me.

48
00:02:26,280 –> 00:02:30,240
In Jesus name, Amen.
What if the ache you feel for

49
00:02:30,240 –> 00:02:32,600
more is actually God calling you
deeper?

50
00:02:33,440 –> 00:02:36,760

00:03:46,280 –> 00:03:48,800
with God in today’s three-year
Bible reading plan.

73
00:03:50,320 –> 00:03:54,960
Proverbs chapter 3 verses 21 to
26 World English Bible.

74
00:03:55,320 –> 00:03:57,800
My son, let them not depart from
your eyes.

75
00:03:58,320 –> 00:04:01,080
Keep sound wisdom and
discretion, so they will be life

76
00:04:01,080 –> 00:04:02,920
to your soul and grace for your
neck.

77
00:04:03,280 –> 00:04:04,960
Then you shall walk in your way
securely.

78
00:04:05,280 –> 00:04:07,600
Your foot won’t stumble when you
lie down.

79
00:04:07,600 –> 00:04:10,600
You will not be afraid.
Yes, you will lie down and your

80
00:04:10,600 –> 00:04:13,640
sleep will be sweet.
Don’t be afraid of sudden fear.

81
00:04:13,760 –> 00:04:17,079
Neither of the desolation of the
wicked when it comes for Yahweh

82
00:04:17,079 –> 00:04:20,160
will be your confidence and will
keep your foot from being taken.

83
00:04:20,720 –> 00:04:25,120
Matthew Chapter 7 World English
Bible Don’t judge so that you

84
00:04:25,120 –> 00:04:27,600
won’t be judged.
For with whatever judgement you

85
00:04:27,600 –> 00:04:30,520
judge, you will be judged, and
with whatever measure you

86
00:04:30,520 –> 00:04:32,120
measure, it will be measured to
you.

87
00:04:32,800 –> 00:04:35,760
Why do you see the speck that is
in your brother’s eye, but don’t

88
00:04:35,760 –> 00:04:37,800
consider the beam that is in
your own eye?

89
00:04:38,200 –> 00:04:40,840
Or how will you tell your
brother, Let me remove the speck

90
00:04:40,840 –> 00:04:43,920
from your eye and behold the
beam is in your own eye.

91
00:04:44,280 –> 00:04:46,960
You hypocrite.
First remove the beam out of

92
00:04:46,960 –> 00:04:49,840
your own eye, and then you can
see clearly to remove the speck

93
00:04:49,840 –> 00:04:52,640
out of your brother’s eye.
Don’t give that which is holy to

94
00:04:52,640 –> 00:04:55,960
the dogs, neither throw your
pearls before the pigs, lest

95
00:04:55,960 –> 00:04:58,880
perhaps they trample them under
their feet and turn and tear you

96
00:04:58,880 –> 00:05:01,480
to pieces.
Ask and it will be given.

97
00:05:01,480 –> 00:05:05,160
You seek, and you will find.
Knock, and it will be open for

98
00:05:05,160 –> 00:05:07,400
you.
For everyone who asks, receives.

99
00:05:07,800 –> 00:05:11,160
He who seeks finds to him who
knocks it will be opened.

100
00:05:11,640 –> 00:05:14,600
Or who is there among you, who,
if his son asks him for bread,

101
00:05:14,600 –> 00:05:17,520
will give him a stone?
Or if he asks for a fish, who

102
00:05:17,520 –> 00:05:21,000
will give him a serpent?
If you then, being evil, know

103
00:05:21,000 –> 00:05:23,920
how to give good gifts to your
children, how much more will

104
00:05:23,920 –> 00:05:26,920
your Father, who is in heaven
give good things to those who

105
00:05:26,920 –> 00:05:29,280
ask him?
Therefore, whatever you desire

106
00:05:29,280 –> 00:05:31,680
for men to do to you, you shall
also do to them.

107
00:05:32,000 –> 00:05:34,040
For this is the law.
And the prophets.

108
00:05:34,600 –> 00:05:37,800
Enter in by the narrow gate.
For the gate is wide, and the

109
00:05:37,800 –> 00:05:40,200
way is broad.
That leads to destruction, and

110
00:05:40,200 –> 00:05:41,720
there are many who enter in by
it.

111
00:05:42,040 –> 00:05:44,680
How narrow is the gate?
And the way is restricted that

112
00:05:44,680 –> 00:05:47,040
leads to life.
There are few who find it.

113
00:05:47,480 –> 00:05:50,600
Beware of false prophets who
come to you in sheep’s clothing

114
00:05:50,640 –> 00:05:52,400
but inwardly are ravening
wolves.

115
00:05:52,920 –> 00:05:54,320
By their fruits you will know
them.

116
00:05:54,680 –> 00:05:57,680
Do you gather grapes from thorns
or figs from thistles?

117
00:05:58,160 –> 00:06:01,320
Even so, every good tree
produces good fruit, but the

118
00:06:01,320 –> 00:06:03,240
corrupt tree produces evil
fruit.

119
00:06:03,800 –> 00:06:06,960
A good tree can’t produce evil
fruit, neither can a corrupt

120
00:06:06,960 –> 00:06:09,760
tree produce good fruit.
Every tree that doesn’t grow

121
00:06:09,760 –> 00:06:12,400
good fruit is cut down and
thrown into the fire.

122
00:06:12,880 –> 00:06:14,680
Therefore by their fruits you
will know them.

123
00:06:15,320 –> 00:06:19,000
Not everyone who says to me,
Lord, Lord, will enter into the

124
00:06:19,000 –> 00:06:22,120
Kingdom of heaven, but he who
does the will of my Father who

125
00:06:22,120 –> 00:06:24,720
is in heaven.
Many will tell me in that day,

126
00:06:24,720 –> 00:06:28,280
Lord, Lord, didn’t we prophecy
in your name, in your name cast

127
00:06:28,280 –> 00:06:30,680
out demons, and in your name do
many mighty works?

128
00:06:31,320 –> 00:06:33,520
Then I will tell them, I never
knew you.

129
00:06:33,800 –> 00:06:35,920
Depart from me You who work
iniquity.

130
00:06:36,560 –> 00:06:39,320
Everyone, therefore who hears
these words of mine and does

131
00:06:39,320 –> 00:06:42,680
them, I will liken him to a wise
man who built his house on the

132
00:06:42,680 –> 00:06:45,080
rock.
The rain came down, the floods

133
00:06:45,080 –> 00:06:48,200
came, and the winds blew and
beat on that house, and it

134
00:06:48,200 –> 00:06:50,240
didn’t fall, for it was founded
on the rock.

135
00:06:50,600 –> 00:06:53,840
Everyone who hears these words
of mine and doesn’t do them will

136
00:06:53,840 –> 00:06:56,480
be like a foolish man who built
his house on the sand.

137
00:06:57,120 –> 00:07:00,720
The rain came down, the floods
came, and the winds blew and

138
00:07:00,720 –> 00:07:03,800
beat on that house and it fell
and it’s fall was great.

139
00:07:04,440 –> 00:07:07,600
When Jesus had finished saying
these things, the multitudes

140
00:07:07,600 –> 00:07:10,200
were astonished at His teaching,
for He taught them with

141
00:07:10,200 –> 00:07:12,080
authority and not like the
scribes.

142
00:07:14,000 –> 00:07:17,240
Thanks for joining us on Bible
Chat, where Scripture meets

143
00:07:17,240 –> 00:07:20,480
everyday life.
If today’s devotional encouraged

144
00:07:20,480 –> 00:07:24,080
you, share it with a friend and
be sure to follow the podcast so

145
00:07:24,080 –> 00:07:25,920
you won’t miss the next

146
00:07:26,240 –> 00:07:29,720
Until next time, stay rooted in
truth, anchored in hope, and

147
00:07:29,720 –> 00:07:31,240
walking daily with Jesus.
