“I have taught you the way of wisdom; I have led you in the paths of uprightness. When you walk, your step will not be hampered, and if you run, you will not stumble.” — Proverbs 4:11–12

“But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.” — Matthew 13:25

________________________________________

Have you ever tried walking in the dark without your phone’s flashlight? You move slow, stumble over stuff, and maybe even get a little freaked out. That’s what life is like without God’s wisdom—uncertain, messy, and filled with traps we don’t see coming. In Proverbs 4, God gives us a solid warning: Don’t wander from the path of wisdom. It’s not just about being “good,” it’s about being guarded—from regret, from heartache, from mistakes that could’ve been avoided.

In Matthew 13, Jesus tells a story about an enemy who sneaks in at night and plants weeds in a field of good seed. The enemy waits until everyone’s sleeping—completely unaware. That’s what happens when we get too comfortable, stop paying attention, or start ignoring what God has already shown us. The enemy doesn’t always show up loud and obvious. Sometimes he sneaks in while we’re distracted.

These passages remind us that staying on God’s path takes intentional choices. The world is full of distractions—some that look harmless at first—but wisdom keeps us grounded. God’s way is not always the easiest, but it is always the safest.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Choose Your Path: Are your current habits and influences helping you walk in wisdom—or pushing you off track? Who’s really guiding your steps?

2. Stay Spiritually Awake: In Matthew 13, the enemy came while they were sleeping. What areas of your life do you need to “wake up” and pay more attention to spiritually?

3. Watch for Weeds: Not everything that looks good is good. Are there things (shows, music, relationships, attitudes) that seem okay but might be planting weeds in your heart?

BOTTOM LINE

God’s wisdom isn’t just a good idea—it’s your safest route through a dangerous world.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help me to love Your wisdom more than the world’s distractions. Show me the path You’ve prepared for me, and give me the strength to walk in it every day—even when it’s hard or unpopular. Keep me spiritually awake and aware, and teach me to guard my heart from things that don’t belong. I want to follow You with my whole life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

00:00:02,440 –> 00:00:05,800
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we
have devotional conversations

2
00:00:06,120 –> 00:00:11,080
rooted in Scripture and relevant
for today, January 16th.

3
00:00:11,400 –> 00:00:13,840
Stay on the path.
Have you ever tried walking

4
00:00:13,840 –> 00:00:15,480
through your house in total
darkness?

5
00:00:15,960 –> 00:00:18,920
You move slower, your hands
reach out just in case, and

6
00:00:18,920 –> 00:00:22,000
every step feels uncertain.
You’re tense because you don’t

7
00:00:22,000 –> 00:00:24,840
know what’s in front of you.
Life feels the same way.

8
00:00:24,840 –> 00:00:28,000
When you drift from God’s
wisdom, things that once felt

9
00:00:28,000 –> 00:00:31,440
clear become confusing.
Choices that seemed small start

10
00:00:31,440 –> 00:00:34,680
to trip you up, and before you
realize it, you’re wondering how

11
00:00:34,680 –> 00:00:38,800
you got so off balance.
In Proverbs chapter 4, verses 11

12
00:00:38,800 –> 00:00:42,320
to 12, God speaks like a loving
guide who knows the terrain

13
00:00:42,320 –> 00:00:44,560
ahead.
He says, I have taught you the

14
00:00:44,560 –> 00:00:47,000
way of wisdom.
I have led you in the paths of

15
00:00:47,000 –> 00:00:49,240
uprightness.
When you walk, your step will

16
00:00:49,240 –> 00:00:52,080
not be Hanford, and if you run,
you will not stumble.

17
00:00:52,720 –> 00:00:56,160
Notice what God promises.
Not a life without movement,

18
00:00:56,240 –> 00:00:59,760
pressure, or effort, but a path
where you can walk and even run

19
00:00:59,760 –> 00:01:02,840
without constantly falling.
Wisdom doesn’t remove the

20
00:01:02,840 –> 00:01:05,080
journey, it makes the journey
steadier.

21
00:01:05,640 –> 00:01:07,600
Then Jesus adds A sobering
picture.

22
00:01:07,600 –> 00:01:11,160
In Matthew chapter 13, he tells
a story about a farmer who

23
00:01:11,160 –> 00:01:14,000
plants good seed.
But while everyone is sleeping,

24
00:01:14,080 –> 00:01:16,680
an enemy sneaks in and plants
weeds among the wheat.

25
00:01:17,240 –> 00:01:19,200
The danger wasn’t obvious at
first.

26
00:01:19,520 –> 00:01:22,880
The field looked fine.
Growth was happening, but over

27
00:01:22,880 –> 00:01:24,840
time, the weeds revealed
themselves.

28
00:01:25,280 –> 00:01:27,800
That’s how distraction and
compromise often work.

29
00:01:28,200 –> 00:01:30,480
They don’t always show up loud
or alarming.

30
00:01:30,840 –> 00:01:33,920
They creep in quietly when we
stop paying attention, when we

31
00:01:33,920 –> 00:01:36,960
get spiritually comfortable, or
when we assume we’ll notice

32
00:01:36,960 –> 00:01:40,640
problems before they matter.
Staying on God’s path isn’t

33
00:01:40,640 –> 00:01:42,880
about fear.
It’s about focus.

34
00:01:43,200 –> 00:01:45,280
It’s choosing to stay awake
spiritually.

35
00:01:45,680 –> 00:01:48,400
It’s guarding what influences
your thoughts, your values, and

36
00:01:48,400 –> 00:01:51,360
your habits.
The enemy loves subtlety, but

37
00:01:51,360 –> 00:01:54,520
wisdom keeps you alert.
God’s Word acts like a light

38
00:01:54,520 –> 00:01:57,160
that exposes what doesn’t belong
before it takes root.

39
00:01:57,640 –> 00:01:59,880
The truth is, everyone is on a
path.

40
00:02:00,360 –> 00:02:02,320
The question is, who’s guiding
your steps?

41
00:02:02,720 –> 00:02:06,520
God’s path may not always be the
easiest or the most popular, but

42
00:02:06,520 –> 00:02:09,479
it is the safest.
It protects you from regret you

43
00:02:09,479 –> 00:02:12,560
don’t see coming and from
detours that cost more than you

44
00:02:12,560 –> 00:02:14,880
expect.
When you stay close to God’s

45
00:02:14,880 –> 00:02:18,480
wisdom, your life may still face
challenges, but you won’t walk

46
00:02:18,480 –> 00:02:21,160
blindly through them.
You don’t stay on the path by

47
00:02:21,160 –> 00:02:23,840
accident.
You stay on it by choosing God

48
00:02:23,840 –> 00:02:27,560
daily, listening carefully, and
refusing to drift just because

49
00:02:27,560 –> 00:02:29,880
it’s easier.
Wisdom keeps you steady.

50
00:02:30,080 –> 00:02:32,960
God keeps you guarded.
And when you stay on His path,

51
00:02:33,120 –> 00:02:36,320
you discover that even in a Dark
World, your steps can be sure.

52
00:02:36,880 –> 00:02:39,560
Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father, thank you for

53
00:02:39,560 –> 00:02:41,960
teaching me the way of wisdom
and leading me on the right

54
00:02:41,960 –> 00:02:44,400
path.
Help me stay spiritually awake

55
00:02:44,400 –> 00:02:47,600
and alert, not distracted or
careless with my heart.

56
00:02:48,240 –> 00:02:51,200
Show me anything that doesn’t
belong in my life and give me

57
00:02:51,200 –> 00:02:54,120
the courage to remove it.
I choose your way over every

58
00:02:54,120 –> 00:02:57,000
shortcut and I trust you to
guide my steps every day.

59
00:02:57,480 –> 00:03:01,320
In Jesus name, Amen.
What if the ache you feel for

60
00:03:01,320 –> 00:03:03,680
more is actually God calling you
deeper?

Listen my son, and receive my

00:04:28,880 –> 00:04:30,400
The years of your life will be
many.

87
00:04:30,720 –> 00:04:32,320
I have taught you in the way of
wisdom.

88
00:04:32,720 –> 00:04:34,400
I have led you in straight
paths.

89
00:04:34,720 –> 00:04:36,800
When you go, your steps will not
be Hanford.

90
00:04:37,240 –> 00:04:38,960
When you run, you will not
stumble.

91
00:04:39,160 –> 00:04:41,960
Take firm hold of instruction.
Don’t let her go.

92
00:04:42,000 –> 00:04:45,240
Keep her, for she is your life.
Don’t enter into the path of the

93
00:04:45,240 –> 00:04:47,200
wicked.
Don’t walk in the way of evil

94
00:04:47,200 –> 00:04:49,640
men.
Avoid it and don’t pass by it.

95
00:04:50,000 –> 00:04:53,120
Turn from it and pass on.
For they don’t sleep unless they

96
00:04:53,120 –> 00:04:55,960
do evil.
Their sleep is taken away unless

97
00:04:55,960 –> 00:04:59,240
they make someone fall, for they
eat the bread of wickedness and

98
00:04:59,240 –> 00:05:02,400
drink the wine of violence.
But the path of the righteous is

99
00:05:02,400 –> 00:05:04,920
like the dawning light that
shines more and more until the

100
00:05:04,920 –> 00:05:07,440
perfect day.
The way of the wicked is like

101
00:05:07,440 –> 00:05:09,120
darkness.
They don’t know what they

102
00:05:09,120 –> 00:05:12,960
stumble over.
Matthew Chapter 13 World English

103
00:05:12,960 –> 00:05:16,480
Bible On that day Jesus went out
of the house and sat by the

104
00:05:16,480 –> 00:05:18,800
seaside.
Great multitudes gathered to

105
00:05:18,800 –> 00:05:22,120
him, so that he entered into a
boat and sat, and all the

106
00:05:22,120 –> 00:05:25,440
multitudes stood on the beach.
He spoke to them many things in

107
00:05:25,440 –> 00:05:29,000
parables, saying, Behold, a
farmer went out to sow.

108
00:05:29,320 –> 00:05:32,920
As he sowed, some seeds fell by
the roadside, and the birds came

109
00:05:32,920 –> 00:05:36,160
and devoured them.
Others fell on rocky ground

110
00:05:36,320 –> 00:05:38,720
where they didn’t have much
soil, and immediately they

111
00:05:38,720 –> 00:05:40,920
sprang up because they had no
depth of earth.

112
00:05:41,240 –> 00:05:43,120
When the sun had risen, they
were scorched.

113
00:05:43,480 –> 00:05:45,600
Because they had no root, they
withered away.

114
00:05:46,040 –> 00:05:49,200
Others fell among thorns.
The thorns grew up and choked

115
00:05:49,200 –> 00:05:51,560
them.
Others fell on good soil and

116
00:05:51,560 –> 00:05:55,680
yielded fruit some 100 times as
much, some 60 and some 30.

117
00:05:56,000 –> 00:05:58,080
He who has ears to hear, let him
hear.

118
00:05:58,600 –> 00:06:01,760
The disciples came and said to
him, Why do you speak to them in

119
00:06:01,760 –> 00:06:04,240
parables?
He answered them to you.

120
00:06:04,240 –> 00:06:06,400
It is given to know the
mysteries of the Kingdom of

121
00:06:06,400 –> 00:06:08,240
heaven, but it is not given to
them.

122
00:06:08,600 –> 00:06:11,240
For whoever has to Him will be
given, and he will have

123
00:06:11,240 –> 00:06:14,840
abundance, but whoever doesn’t
have from him will be taken away

124
00:06:14,840 –> 00:06:18,000
even that which He has.
Therefore I speak to them in

125
00:06:18,000 –> 00:06:21,080
parables because seeing they
don’t see, and hearing they

126
00:06:21,080 –> 00:06:23,120
don’t hear, neither do they
understand.

127
00:06:23,480 –> 00:06:26,960
In them the prophecy of Isaiah
is fulfilled, which says by

128
00:06:26,960 –> 00:06:29,520
hearing you will hear and will
in no way understand.

129
00:06:29,520 –> 00:06:32,080
Seeing you will see, and will in
no way perceive.

130
00:06:32,600 –> 00:06:34,520
For this people’s heart has
grown callous.

131
00:06:34,560 –> 00:06:37,600
Their ears are dull of hearing,
and they have closed their eyes,

132
00:06:37,920 –> 00:06:40,760
or else perhaps they might
perceive with their eyes, hear

133
00:06:40,760 –> 00:06:43,400
with their ears, understand with
their heart, and would turn

134
00:06:43,400 –> 00:06:46,760
again, and I would heal them.
But blessed are your eyes for

135
00:06:46,760 –> 00:06:48,800
they see, and your ears for they
hear.

136
00:06:49,120 –> 00:06:52,120
For most certainly I tell you
that many prophets and righteous

137
00:06:52,120 –> 00:06:55,120
men desired to see the things
which you see, and didn’t see

138
00:06:55,120 –> 00:06:58,080
them, and to hear the things
which you hear and didn’t hear

139
00:06:58,080 –> 00:07:00,960
them hear.
Then the parable of the farmer.

140
00:07:01,280 –> 00:07:03,720
When anyone hears the word of
the Kingdom and doesn’t

141
00:07:03,720 –> 00:07:07,560
understand it, the evil 1 comes
and snatches away that which has

142
00:07:07,560 –> 00:07:10,720
been sown in his heart.
This is what was sown by the

143
00:07:10,720 –> 00:07:13,440
roadside, what was sown on the
rocky places.

144
00:07:13,680 –> 00:07:16,400
This is he who hears the word
and immediately with joy

145
00:07:16,400 –> 00:07:19,080
receives it.
Yet he has no root in himself,

146
00:07:19,200 –> 00:07:22,480
but endures for a while.
When oppression or persecution

147
00:07:22,480 –> 00:07:25,600
arises because of the word,
immediately he stumbles.

148
00:07:25,920 –> 00:07:29,400
What was sown among the thorns?
This is he who hears the word,

149
00:07:29,880 –> 00:07:32,560
but the cares of this age and
the deceitfulness of riches

150
00:07:32,560 –> 00:07:35,080
choke the word, and he becomes
unfruitful.

151
00:07:35,400 –> 00:07:36,800
What was sown on the good
ground.

152
00:07:36,960 –> 00:07:39,920
This is he who hears the word
and understands it, who most

153
00:07:39,920 –> 00:07:43,200
certainly bears fruit, and
produces some 100 times as much,

154
00:07:43,200 –> 00:07:47,040
some 60 and some 30.
He said another parable before

155
00:07:47,040 –> 00:07:50,160
them, saying, The Kingdom of
heaven is like a man who sowed

156
00:07:50,160 –> 00:07:53,360
good seed in his field, but
while people slept, his enemy

157
00:07:53,360 –> 00:07:56,360
came and sowed darnall weeds
also among the wheat and went

158
00:07:56,360 –> 00:07:58,360
away.
But when the blade sprang up and

159
00:07:58,360 –> 00:08:01,400
produced grain, then the Darnell
weeds appeared also.

160
00:08:01,760 –> 00:08:04,640
The servants of the householder
came and said to him, Sir,

161
00:08:04,640 –> 00:08:06,280
didn’t you sow good seed in your
field?

162
00:08:06,480 –> 00:08:08,200
Where did these Darnell weeds
come from?

163
00:08:08,600 –> 00:08:10,680
He said to them, An enemy has
done this.

164
00:08:11,120 –> 00:08:13,720
The servants asked him, Do you
want us to go and gather them

165
00:08:13,720 –> 00:08:16,400
up?
But he said no, lest perhaps

166
00:08:16,400 –> 00:08:18,920
while you gather up the Darnell
weeds you root up the wheat with

167
00:08:18,920 –> 00:08:21,120
them.
Let both grow together until the

168
00:08:21,120 –> 00:08:25,280
harvest, and in the harvest time
I will tell the reapers first

169
00:08:25,360 –> 00:08:28,320
gather up the Darnell weeds and
bind them in bundles to burn

170
00:08:28,320 –> 00:08:30,680
them, but gather the wheat into
my barn.

171
00:08:31,240 –> 00:08:34,559
He said another parable before
them, saying the Kingdom of

172
00:08:34,559 –> 00:08:37,520
heaven is like a grain of
mustard seed which a man took

173
00:08:37,840 –> 00:08:40,960
and sowed in his field, which
indeed is smaller than all

174
00:08:40,960 –> 00:08:44,520
seeds, but when it is grown it
is greater than the herbs and

175
00:08:44,520 –> 00:08:47,600
becomes a tree, so that the
birds of the air come and lodge

176
00:08:47,600 –> 00:08:50,480
in its branches.
He spoke another parable to

177
00:08:50,480 –> 00:08:52,520
them.
The Kingdom of heaven is like

178
00:08:52,600 –> 00:08:56,240
yeast which a woman took and hid
in three measures of meal until

179
00:08:56,240 –> 00:08:59,680
it was all leavened.
Jesus spoke all these things in

180
00:08:59,680 –> 00:09:02,520
parables to the multitudes, and
without a parable.

181
00:09:02,520 –> 00:09:05,240
He didn’t speak to them that it
might be fulfilled, which was

182
00:09:05,240 –> 00:09:08,640
spoken through the prophet
saying, I will open my mouth in

183
00:09:08,640 –> 00:09:11,040
parables.
I will utter things hidden from

184
00:09:11,040 –> 00:09:14,640
the foundation of the world.
Then Jesus sent the multitudes

185
00:09:14,640 –> 00:09:18,000
away and went into the house.
His disciples came to him

186
00:09:18,000 –> 00:09:21,240
saying, Explain to us the
parable of the darnall weeds of

187
00:09:21,240 –> 00:09:24,320
the field.
He answered them, He who sows

188
00:09:24,320 –> 00:09:28,040
the good seed is the Son of Man,
the field is the world, the good

189
00:09:28,040 –> 00:09:30,800
seeds are the children of the
Kingdom, and the darnall weeds

190
00:09:30,800 –> 00:09:34,240
are the children of the evil. 1
The enemy who sowed them is the

191
00:09:34,240 –> 00:09:37,920
devil, The harvest is the end of
the age, and the reapers are

192
00:09:37,920 –> 00:09:40,440
angels.
As therefore the Darnall weeds

193
00:09:40,440 –> 00:09:43,640
are gathered up and burned with
fire, so will it be at the end

194
00:09:43,640 –> 00:09:46,280
of this age.
The Son of Man will send out his

195
00:09:46,280 –> 00:09:49,720
angels, and they will gather out
of his Kingdom all things that

196
00:09:49,720 –> 00:09:53,280
cause stumbling, and those who
do iniquity and will cast them

197
00:09:53,280 –> 00:09:56,120
into the furnace of fire.
There will be weeping and

198
00:09:56,120 –> 00:09:58,600
gnashing of teeth.
Then the righteous will shine

199
00:09:58,600 –> 00:10:00,400
like the sun in the Kingdom of
their Father.

200
00:10:00,880 –> 00:10:04,040
He who has ears to hear, let him
hear again.

201
00:10:04,120 –> 00:10:06,680
The Kingdom of heaven is like
treasure hidden in the field

202
00:10:06,840 –> 00:10:09,440
which a man found and hid in his
joy.

203
00:10:09,480 –> 00:10:13,760
He goes and sells all that he
has and buys that field again.

204
00:10:13,840 –> 00:10:16,520
The Kingdom of heaven is like a
man who is a merchant seeking

205
00:10:16,520 –> 00:10:20,400
fine pearls, who having found
one Pearl of great price, he

206
00:10:20,400 –> 00:10:23,640
went and sold all that he had
and bought it again.

207
00:10:23,640 –> 00:10:26,400
The Kingdom of heaven is like a
dragnet that was cast into the

208
00:10:26,400 –> 00:10:29,960
sea and gathered some fish of
every kind, which when it was

209
00:10:29,960 –> 00:10:32,160
filled, fishermen drew up on the
beach.

210
00:10:32,720 –> 00:10:35,720
They sat down and gathered the
good into containers, but the

211
00:10:35,720 –> 00:10:38,520
bad they threw away.
So it will be in the end of the

212
00:10:38,520 –> 00:10:40,800
world.
The angels will come and

213
00:10:40,800 –> 00:10:43,760
separate the wicked from among
the righteous, and will cast

214
00:10:43,760 –> 00:10:46,600
them into the furnace of fire.
There will be weeping and

215
00:10:46,600 –> 00:10:49,280
gnashing of teeth.
Jesus said to them, Have you

216
00:10:49,280 –> 00:10:53,240
understood all these things?
They answered him, Yes, Lord, He

217
00:10:53,240 –> 00:10:55,840
said to them, Therefore every
scribe who has been made a

218
00:10:55,840 –> 00:10:58,440
disciple in the Kingdom of
heaven is like a man who is a

219
00:10:58,440 –> 00:11:01,760
householder who brings out of
his treasure new and old things.

220
00:11:02,320 –> 00:11:05,200
When Jesus had finished these
parables, he departed from

221
00:11:05,200 –> 00:11:07,360
there, coming into his own
country.

222
00:11:07,440 –> 00:11:09,600
He taught them in their
synagogue so that they were

223
00:11:09,600 –> 00:11:13,160
astonished and said, Where did
this man get this wisdom and

224
00:11:13,160 –> 00:11:16,200
these mighty works?
Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?

225
00:11:16,520 –> 00:11:20,000
Isn’t his mother called Mary and
his brothers James, Jose is

226
00:11:20,000 –> 00:11:22,680
Simon, and Judas?
Aren’t all of his sisters with

227
00:11:22,680 –> 00:11:24,720
us?
Where then did this man get all

228
00:11:24,720 –> 00:11:27,560
of these things?
They were offended by him, but

229
00:11:27,560 –> 00:11:31,440
Jesus said to them, a prophet is
not without honor except in his

230
00:11:31,440 –> 00:11:33,240
own country and in his own
house.

231
00:11:33,840 –> 00:11:36,680
He didn’t do many mighty works
there because of their unbelief.
