JANUARY 21 – Wake Up, Ants Are Winning
3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 6:6–11; Matthew 18

“Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest.” — Proverbs 6:6–8
“So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.” — Matthew 18:14

It’s easy to hit snooze on your alarm five times and promise yourself you’ll do that assignment later. But before you know it, “later” turns into last minute. We’ve all had those moments where we felt lazy or unmotivated. But have you ever watched ants at work? They never stop moving, never wait for someone to tell them what to do. In Proverbs 6, God literally tells us to learn from ants—yes, ants!—because they know how to prepare and work hard without anyone pushing them.
On the flip side, Matthew 18 reminds us that every single person matters to God. He doesn’t want anyone to be lost. That includes the “lazy” kid, the one falling behind, the one who’s drifting. God doesn’t write us off—He wants to restore us. He tells a story about a shepherd leaving 99 sheep to go find just one that wandered off. That’s how much He cares.
So what do these two ideas have in common? It’s this: when you take responsibility like the ant, and when you know how valuable you are to God, you’ll stop wasting your life—and start living with purpose.

THINK ABOUT IT
1. Ant Lessons: What habits can you learn from the ant? Are you waiting to be pushed, or do you take initiative in your school, home, or spiritual life?
2. One Matters: Jesus talks about a shepherd leaving 99 sheep for one. What does that tell you about your value—even on your “lazy” or “lost” days?
3. Laziness Costs: Proverbs 6:11 says poverty can come like a robber. What might you be missing out on—spiritually, emotionally, academically—because of procrastination?

BOTTOM LINE
God values you, but He also calls you to rise up, be responsible, and live like your life matters—because it does.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me, even when I fall behind or feel unmotivated. Help me learn from the ant and grow into someone who takes responsibility, lives with purpose, and honors You in every area of my life. Keep reminding me how much I matter to You, and give me the strength to live that out every day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Welcome to Bible Chat, where we
have devotional conversations
2
00:00:06,120 –> 00:00:11,360
rooted in Scripture and relevant
for today, January 21st.
3
00:00:11,720 –> 00:00:15,280
Wake up, ants are winning.
It’s way too easy to hit snooze
4
00:00:15,600 –> 00:00:18,760
on your alarm, on your
responsibilities, and sometimes
5
00:00:18,760 –> 00:00:21,240
even on your purpose.
You tell yourself you’ll get
6
00:00:21,240 –> 00:00:24,800
serious tomorrow, start that
assignment later, pray more next
7
00:00:24,800 –> 00:00:28,000
week, or take life seriously
when things calm down.
8
00:00:28,600 –> 00:00:30,440
But later has a habit of
slipping away.
9
00:00:30,840 –> 00:00:33,960
Before you know it, days pass,
opportunities shrink, and
10
00:00:33,960 –> 00:00:38,080
motivation feels harder to find.
That’s why Proverbs chapter 6
11
00:00:38,080 –> 00:00:40,440
feels almost funny and painfully
honest.
12
00:00:40,800 –> 00:00:44,160
God says go to the Ant.
Oh sluggard, consider her ways
13
00:00:44,160 –> 00:00:46,880
and be wise.
Of all the creatures God could
14
00:00:46,880 –> 00:00:48,800
use as an example, he chooses
ants.
15
00:00:49,240 –> 00:00:52,560
Ants don’t wait for motivation.
They don’t need supervision.
16
00:00:52,960 –> 00:00:54,800
No one has to remind them what
to do.
17
00:00:55,160 –> 00:00:57,520
They work while they can.
They prepare ahead of time.
18
00:00:57,920 –> 00:01:00,200
They move with purpose, even
though they’re small.
19
00:01:00,600 –> 00:01:04,160
And God says that’s wisdom.
Laziness isn’t always about
20
00:01:04,160 –> 00:01:06,680
doing nothing.
Sometimes it’s about delaying
21
00:01:06,680 –> 00:01:09,040
what matters.
It’s putting off growth,
22
00:01:09,040 –> 00:01:12,800
discipline, and obedience until
it feels urgent or comfortable.
23
00:01:13,120 –> 00:01:16,360
Proverbs warns that when we live
that way, LAX sneaks up on us
24
00:01:16,360 –> 00:01:19,400
quietly.
Not always just financially, but
25
00:01:19,400 –> 00:01:21,800
spiritually, emotionally, and
relationally.
26
00:01:22,120 –> 00:01:25,480
We wake up one day realizing
we’ve fallen behind in places
27
00:01:25,480 –> 00:01:28,400
that really matter.
But here’s the grace filled side
28
00:01:28,400 –> 00:01:31,840
of today’s message.
Matthew chapter 18 shows us
29
00:01:31,840 –> 00:01:33,760
God’s heart toward people who
drift.
30
00:01:34,200 –> 00:01:37,240
Jesus says it’s not the will of
the Father that even 1 little
31
00:01:37,240 –> 00:01:40,240
one should perish.
He tells the story of a shepherd
32
00:01:40,320 –> 00:01:44,080
who leaves 99 sheep just to go
after one that wandered off.
33
00:01:44,480 –> 00:01:47,280
That means God doesn’t give up
on you when you’re unmotivated,
34
00:01:47,280 –> 00:01:51,120
distracted, or falling behind.
He doesn’t label you as a lost
35
00:01:51,120 –> 00:01:55,080
’cause He comes looking for you.
Put those two truths together
36
00:01:55,160 –> 00:01:58,800
and something powerful emerges.
God values you deeply, and
37
00:01:58,800 –> 00:02:00,840
because you matter, how you live
matters.
38
00:02:01,280 –> 00:02:03,360
You’re not called to drift
through life waiting to be
39
00:02:03,360 –> 00:02:05,800
pushed.
You’re called to rise up, take
40
00:02:05,800 –> 00:02:07,920
responsibility, and live with
intention.
41
00:02:08,479 –> 00:02:10,919
Like the Ant, you can choose to
prepare instead of
42
00:02:10,919 –> 00:02:14,800
procrastinate, to act instead of
delay, and to grow even when no
43
00:02:14,800 –> 00:02:17,120
one is watching.
You don’t work hard to earn
44
00:02:17,120 –> 00:02:19,440
God’s love.
You work hard because you
45
00:02:19,440 –> 00:02:22,200
already have it.
And when you understand how much
46
00:02:22,200 –> 00:02:25,400
you matter to Him, you stop
wasting time and start living on
47
00:02:25,400 –> 00:02:27,800
purpose.
Today isn’t about shame.
48
00:02:28,240 –> 00:02:30,920
It’s about waking up to who you
are and what you’re capable of.
49
00:02:30,920 –> 00:02:34,920
With God’s help, let’s pray.
Heavenly Father, thank you for
50
00:02:34,920 –> 00:02:38,240
loving me even when I’ve been
distracted, unmotivated, or slow
51
00:02:38,240 –> 00:02:40,880
to act.
Help me learn from the Ant and
52
00:02:40,880 –> 00:02:44,200
grow into someone who lives with
discipline, purpose, and wisdom.
53
00:02:44,800 –> 00:02:47,880
Remind me that my life matters
to You and that You’ve given me
54
00:02:47,880 –> 00:02:50,640
today for a reason.
Give me the strength to rise up,
55
00:02:50,840 –> 00:02:54,480
take responsibility and honor
you and how I live each day in
56
00:02:54,480 –> 00:02:58,080
Jesus name, Amen.
What if the ache you feel for
57
00:02:58,080 –> 00:03:00,440
more is actually God calling you
deeper?

00:04:14,160 –> 00:04:16,680
with God in today’s three-year
Bible reading plan.
81
00:04:18,200 –> 00:04:22,520
Proverbs chapter 6, verses 6 to
11 World English Bible.
82
00:04:23,000 –> 00:04:26,720
Go to the Ant, you, Sluggard,
consider her ways and be wise,
83
00:04:27,000 –> 00:04:30,360
which, having no chief overseer
or ruler, provides her bread in
84
00:04:30,360 –> 00:04:32,600
the summer and gathers her food
in the harvest.
85
00:04:32,960 –> 00:04:34,480
How long will you sleep,
sluggard?
86
00:04:34,800 –> 00:04:36,480
When will you arise out of your
sleep?
87
00:04:36,880 –> 00:04:39,600
A little sleep, a little
slumber, a little folding of the
88
00:04:39,600 –> 00:04:42,040
hands to sleep?
So your poverty will come as a
89
00:04:42,040 –> 00:04:44,440
robber, and your scarcity as an
armed man.
90
00:04:44,960 –> 00:04:49,880
Matthew Chapter 18 World English
Bible In that hour the disciples
91
00:04:49,880 –> 00:04:53,040
came to Jesus, saying, Who then
is greatest in the Kingdom of
92
00:04:53,040 –> 00:04:55,600
heaven?
Jesus called a little child to
93
00:04:55,600 –> 00:04:58,840
himself and set him in the
middle of them, and said, Most
94
00:04:58,840 –> 00:05:00,920
certainly.
I tell you, unless you turn and
95
00:05:00,920 –> 00:05:03,960
become as little children, you
will in no way enter into the
96
00:05:03,960 –> 00:05:06,440
Kingdom of heaven.
Whoever therefore humbles
97
00:05:06,440 –> 00:05:09,840
himself as this little child is
the greatest in the Kingdom of
98
00:05:09,840 –> 00:05:12,160
heaven.
Whoever receives one such little
99
00:05:12,160 –> 00:05:15,680
child in my name receives me.
But whoever causes one of these
100
00:05:15,680 –> 00:05:18,920
little ones who believe in Me to
stumble, it would be better for
101
00:05:18,920 –> 00:05:22,280
him if a huge millstone were
hung around his neck, and that
102
00:05:22,280 –> 00:05:24,040
he were sunk in the depths of
the sea.
103
00:05:24,360 –> 00:05:27,480
Woe to the world because of
occasions of stumbling, for it
104
00:05:27,480 –> 00:05:30,760
must be that the occasions come,
but woe to that person through
105
00:05:30,760 –> 00:05:34,240
whom the occasion comes.
If your hand or your foot causes
106
00:05:34,240 –> 00:05:36,640
you to stumble, cut it off and
cast it from you.
107
00:05:37,080 –> 00:05:40,120
It is better for you to enter
into life maimed or crippled,
108
00:05:40,520 –> 00:05:43,680
rather than having two hands or
two feet to be cast into the
109
00:05:43,680 –> 00:05:46,320
eternal fire.
If your eye causes you to
110
00:05:46,320 –> 00:05:48,560
stumble, pluck it out and cast
it from you.
111
00:05:48,960 –> 00:05:52,440
It is better for you to enter
into life with one eye rather
112
00:05:52,440 –> 00:05:55,520
than having two eyes to be cast
into the Gehenna of fire.
113
00:05:56,120 –> 00:05:59,320
See that you don’t despise one
of these little ones, for I tell
114
00:05:59,320 –> 00:06:02,720
you that in heaven their angels
always see the face of my Father
115
00:06:02,720 –> 00:06:05,600
who is in heaven.
For the Son of Man came to save
116
00:06:05,600 –> 00:06:07,960
that which was lost.
What do you think?
117
00:06:08,280 –> 00:06:11,880
If a man has 100 sheep and one
of them goes astray, doesn’t he
118
00:06:11,880 –> 00:06:14,960
leave the 99, go to the
mountains, and seek that which
119
00:06:14,960 –> 00:06:17,880
has gone astray?
If he finds it, most certainly,
120
00:06:17,880 –> 00:06:21,720
I tell you, he rejoices over it
more than over the 99 which have
121
00:06:21,720 –> 00:06:24,840
not gone astray.
Even so, it is not the will of
122
00:06:24,840 –> 00:06:27,720
your Father, who is in heaven,
that one of these little ones
123
00:06:27,720 –> 00:06:30,120
should perish.
If your brother sins against
124
00:06:30,120 –> 00:06:33,240
you, go show him his fault
between you and him alone.
125
00:06:33,720 –> 00:06:36,960
If he listens to you, you have
gained back your brother, but if
126
00:06:36,960 –> 00:06:39,840
he doesn’t listen, take one or
two more with you, that at the
127
00:06:39,840 –> 00:06:43,160
mouth of two or three witnesses
every word may be established.
128
00:06:43,520 –> 00:06:46,560
If he refuses to listen to them,
tell it to the assembly.
129
00:06:47,080 –> 00:06:50,440
If he refuses to hear the
assembly also, let him be to you
130
00:06:50,520 –> 00:06:54,240
as a Gentile or a tax collector.
Most certainly, I tell you,
131
00:06:54,600 –> 00:06:57,040
whatever things you bind on
earth will have been bound in
132
00:06:57,040 –> 00:07:00,120
heaven, and whatever things you
release on earth will have been
133
00:07:00,120 –> 00:07:04,720
released in heaven again.
Assuredly I tell you that if 2
134
00:07:04,720 –> 00:07:07,080
of you will agree on earth
concerning anything that they
135
00:07:07,080 –> 00:07:10,280
will ask, it will be done for
them by My Father who is in
136
00:07:10,280 –> 00:07:12,080
heaven.
For where two or three are
137
00:07:12,080 –> 00:07:14,680
gathered together in My name,
there I am in the middle of
138
00:07:14,680 –> 00:07:17,520
them.
Then Peter came and said to him,
139
00:07:17,760 –> 00:07:21,200
Lord, how often shall my brother
sin against me, and I forgive
140
00:07:21,200 –> 00:07:23,160
him?
Until 7 times.
141
00:07:23,640 –> 00:07:27,880
Jesus said to him, I don’t tell
you until 7 times, but until 70
142
00:07:27,880 –> 00:07:30,680
* 7.
Therefore the Kingdom of heaven
143
00:07:30,680 –> 00:07:33,400
is like a certain king who
wanted to settle accounts with
144
00:07:33,400 –> 00:07:36,040
his servants.
When he had begun to settle, one
145
00:07:36,040 –> 00:07:39,560
was brought to him who owed him
10,000 talents, but because he
146
00:07:39,560 –> 00:07:42,880
couldn’t pay, his Lord commanded
him to be sold with his wife,
147
00:07:42,920 –> 00:07:45,720
his children and all that he had
and payment to be made.
148
00:07:46,320 –> 00:07:49,640
The servant therefore fell down
and knelt before him saying,
149
00:07:49,640 –> 00:07:52,360
Lord, have patience with me and
I will repay you all.
150
00:07:53,000 –> 00:07:56,200
The Lord of that servant, being
moved with compassion, released
151
00:07:56,200 –> 00:07:59,080
him and forgave him the debt.
But that servant went out and
152
00:07:59,080 –> 00:08:02,480
found one of his fellow servants
who owed him 100 denarii, and he
153
00:08:02,480 –> 00:08:05,480
grabbed him and took him by the
throat, saying, Pay me what you
154
00:08:05,480 –> 00:08:07,840
owe.
So his fellow servant fell down
155
00:08:07,840 –> 00:08:10,800
at his feet and begged him,
saying, Have patience with me,
156
00:08:10,800 –> 00:08:14,120
and I will repay you.
He would not, but went and cast
157
00:08:14,120 –> 00:08:16,800
him into prison until he should
pay back that which was due.
158
00:08:17,160 –> 00:08:19,800
So when his fellow servants saw
what was done, they were
159
00:08:19,800 –> 00:08:22,840
exceedingly sorry and came and
told their Lord all that was
160
00:08:22,840 –> 00:08:25,320
done.
Then his Lord called him in and
161
00:08:25,320 –> 00:08:29,000
said to him, You wicked servant,
I forgave you all that debt
162
00:08:29,000 –> 00:08:31,440
because you begged me.
Shouldn’t you also have had
163
00:08:31,440 –> 00:08:34,679
mercy on your fellow servant?
Even as I had mercy on you?
164
00:08:35,480 –> 00:08:38,919
His Lord was angry and delivered
him to the tormentors until he
165
00:08:38,919 –> 00:08:40,679
should pay all that was due to
him.
166
00:08:41,039 –> 00:08:44,400
So my Heavenly Father will also
do to you if you don’t each
167
00:08:44,400 –> 00:08:46,720
forgive your brother from your
hearts for his misdeeds.
