“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6

“When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.” — Matthew 2:10

“And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.” — Matthew 2:12

Have you ever been totally lost—even with GPS? Maybe your phone rerouted you the wrong way, or you ignored the directions thinking you knew better. That moment of panic when you realize you’re off-track? It’s not fun. Life can feel that way too. We make plans, chase goals, and try to figure things out, but sometimes we just feel stuck or confused. That’s why Proverbs 3:5–6 hits different. Trusting God doesn’t mean we stop thinking—it means we stop assuming we always know best.

In Matthew 2, the wise men didn’t follow a map—they followed a star. They didn’t rely on their own understanding of where Jesus would be born; they trusted the signs God gave them. And when it came time to head home, they didn’t argue with the dream that warned them about Herod—they obeyed and took a different path. That’s real trust in action.

What if we followed God like that—trusting Him more than our own plans, being willing to change direction when He says so? What if the “straight path” promised in Proverbs isn’t always the easiest or shortest, but it is the safest when God is guiding?

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Trust Over Logic: Are you leaning more on what makes sense to you, or what God says is right—even if it doesn’t fully make sense yet?

2. God’s Signs Still Speak: Like the wise men followed a star and a dream, are you open to the ways God may be trying to guide you today—through Scripture, prayer, wise advice, or even roadblocks?

3. Changing Course is Okay: Sometimes God will ask you to take a different path than you planned. Are you willing to reroute when He leads?

________________________________________

BOTTOM LINE

When you trust God’s direction more than your own, you’ll never be lost—even if the road looks unfamiliar.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I don’t always understand where You’re taking me, but I want to trust You with all my heart. Help me to let go of my need to have it all figured out and to follow Your lead—even when it’s uncomfortable. Just like You guided the wise men, guide me today with Your wisdom and peace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Welcome to Bible Chat, where we
have devotional conversations

2
00:00:06,120 –> 00:00:10,960
rooted in Scripture and relevant
for today, January 5th.

3
00:00:11,120 –> 00:00:14,000
Divine GPS.
Have you ever trusted your own

4
00:00:14,000 –> 00:00:16,880
sense of direction only to
realize later you were

5
00:00:16,880 –> 00:00:21,000
completely wrong?
Proverbs chapter 3 verses 5 to 6

6
00:00:21,200 –> 00:00:23,240
invites us into a different way
of living.

7
00:00:23,640 –> 00:00:26,560
Trust in the Lord with all your
heart and do not lean on your

8
00:00:26,560 –> 00:00:29,800
own understanding.
Acknowledge Him in all your ways

9
00:00:29,920 –> 00:00:31,480
and He will make your path
straight.

10
00:00:32,000 –> 00:00:34,400
Trusting God doesn’t mean
turning off your brain.

11
00:00:34,760 –> 00:00:37,560
It means recognizing that His
perspective is bigger than

12
00:00:37,560 –> 00:00:40,720
yours.
In Matthew chapter 2, the wise

13
00:00:40,720 –> 00:00:44,240
men followed a star they didn’t
fully understand simply because

14
00:00:44,240 –> 00:00:47,200
God was guiding them.
When God warned them in a dream

15
00:00:47,200 –> 00:00:50,480
not to return to Herod, they
listened and changed direction.

16
00:00:51,080 –> 00:00:54,280
Their obedience protected them
and kept God’s plan moving

17
00:00:54,280 –> 00:00:57,120
forward.
Sometimes God’s guidance leads

18
00:00:57,120 –> 00:01:00,720
us down unexpected roads, but
those roads are always covered

19
00:01:00,720 –> 00:01:03,320
by His care.
When you trust God’s direction,

20
00:01:03,520 –> 00:01:07,440
even detours have purpose.
Even unfamiliar paths can lead

21
00:01:07,440 –> 00:01:11,160
to joy, growth, and protection.
You are never lost when God is

22
00:01:11,160 –> 00:01:13,640
leading, even if the journey
feels uncertain.

23
00:01:14,160 –> 00:01:16,960
Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father, help me trust

24
00:01:16,960 –> 00:01:19,880
You with all my heart.
Teach me to release my need to

25
00:01:19,880 –> 00:01:22,080
understand everything and follow
your guidance.

26
00:01:22,080 –> 00:01:25,000
Instead, when you call me to
change direction, give me

27
00:01:25,000 –> 00:01:27,880
courage to obey.
Lead me on paths of peace and

28
00:01:27,880 –> 00:01:31,440
purpose as I walk with you in
Jesus name, Amen.

29
00:01:32,600 –> 00:01:35,680
What if the ache you feel for
more is actually God calling you

30
00:01:35,680 –> 00:01:38,320
deeper?

your paths straight.
Matthew Chapter 2 World English

58
00:03:08,160 –> 00:03:12,280
Bible Now when Jesus was born in
Bethlehem of Judea, in the days

59
00:03:12,280 –> 00:03:16,120
of King Herod, behold, wise men
from the east came to Jerusalem,

60
00:03:16,280 –> 00:03:19,480
saying, Where is he who is born
King of the Jews?

61
00:03:19,800 –> 00:03:22,800
For we saw his star in the east,
and have come to worship him.

62
00:03:23,400 –> 00:03:26,920
When King Herod heard it, he was
troubled, and all Jerusalem with

63
00:03:26,920 –> 00:03:29,360
him.
Gathering together all the chief

64
00:03:29,360 –> 00:03:32,000
priests and scribes of the
people, he asked them where the

65
00:03:32,000 –> 00:03:35,160
Christ would be born.
They said to him in Bethlehem of

66
00:03:35,160 –> 00:03:37,480
Judaea, for this is written
through the prophet.

67
00:03:37,840 –> 00:03:41,040
You, Bethlehem, land of Judah,
are in no way least among the

68
00:03:41,040 –> 00:03:43,840
Princess of Judah, for out of
you shall come a governor who

69
00:03:43,840 –> 00:03:47,920
shall shepherd my people Israel.
Then Herod secretly called the

70
00:03:47,920 –> 00:03:51,120
wise men and learned from them
exactly what time the star

71
00:03:51,120 –> 00:03:53,520
appeared.
He sent them to Bethlehem and

72
00:03:53,520 –> 00:03:56,520
said, Go and search diligently
for the young child.

73
00:03:56,800 –> 00:03:59,600
When you have found him, bring
me word, so that I also may come

74
00:03:59,600 –> 00:04:02,320
and worship him.
They, having heard the King,

75
00:04:02,320 –> 00:04:06,160
went their way, and behold, the
star which they saw in the East

76
00:04:06,240 –> 00:04:08,760
went before them until it came
and stood over where the young

77
00:04:08,760 –> 00:04:11,280
child was.
When they saw the star, they

78
00:04:11,280 –> 00:04:13,240
rejoiced with exceedingly great
joy.

79
00:04:13,920 –> 00:04:17,000
They came into the house and saw
the young child with Mary his

80
00:04:17,000 –> 00:04:19,240
mother, and they fell down and
worshipped him.

81
00:04:19,600 –> 00:04:22,880
Opening their treasures, they
offered to him gifts, gold,

82
00:04:22,880 –> 00:04:26,120
frankincense, and myrrh.
Being warned in a dream not to

83
00:04:26,120 –> 00:04:29,200
return to Herod, they went back
to their own country another

84
00:04:29,200 –> 00:04:31,080
way.
Now when they had departed,

85
00:04:31,080 –> 00:04:34,360
behold, an Angel of the Lord
appeared to Joseph in a dream,

86
00:04:34,760 –> 00:04:38,760
saying, Arise and take the young
child and his mother, and flee

87
00:04:38,760 –> 00:04:42,560
into Egypt, and stay there until
I tell you, for Herod will seek

88
00:04:42,560 –> 00:04:46,120
the young child to destroy him.
He arose and took the young

89
00:04:46,120 –> 00:04:50,000
child and his mother by night,
and departed into Egypt, and was

90
00:04:50,000 –> 00:04:52,720
there until the death of Herod,
that it might be fulfilled.

91
00:04:52,720 –> 00:04:56,120
Which was spoken by the Lord
through the prophet saying Out

92
00:04:56,120 –> 00:04:59,960
of Egypt I called my son.
Then Herod, when he saw that he

93
00:04:59,960 –> 00:05:04,000
was mocked by the wise men, was
exceedingly angry and sent out

94
00:05:04,000 –> 00:05:07,400
and killed all the male children
who were in Bethlehem and in all

95
00:05:07,400 –> 00:05:11,240
the surrounding countryside from
2 years old and under, according

96
00:05:11,240 –> 00:05:13,880
to the exact time which he had
learned from the wise men.

97
00:05:14,240 –> 00:05:16,640
Then that which was spoken by
Jeremiah the prophet was

98
00:05:16,640 –> 00:05:21,040
fulfilled, saying a voice was
heard in Rama, lamentation,

99
00:05:21,120 –> 00:05:24,400
weeping and great mourning.
Rachel weeping for her children.

100
00:05:24,680 –> 00:05:26,920
She wouldn’t be comforted,
because they are no more.

101
00:05:27,600 –> 00:05:30,760
But when Herod was dead, behold,
an Angel of the Lord appeared in

102
00:05:30,760 –> 00:05:34,680
a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
saying, Arise, and take the

103
00:05:34,680 –> 00:05:37,840
young child and his mother, and
go into the land of Israel.

104
00:05:38,120 –> 00:05:40,520
For those who sought the young
child’s life are dead.

105
00:05:41,120 –> 00:05:44,240
He arose and took the young
child and his mother and came

106
00:05:44,240 –> 00:05:47,280
into the land of Israel.
But when he heard that Archelaus

107
00:05:47,280 –> 00:05:50,560
was reigning over Judea in the
place of his father Herod, he

108
00:05:50,560 –> 00:05:53,920
was afraid to go there.
Being warned in a dream, he

109
00:05:53,920 –> 00:05:56,760
withdrew into the region of
Galilee and came and lived in a

110
00:05:56,760 –> 00:06:00,120
city called Nazareth, that it
might be fulfilled, which was

111
00:06:00,120 –> 00:06:02,280
spoken through the prophets,
that he will be called a

112
00:06:02,280 –> 00:06:06,440
Nazarene.
