“It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor than to divide the spoil with the proud.” — Proverbs 16:19

“Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me.” — Psalm 59:1

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2

There’s something powerful about humility. In Proverbs 16:19, we’re reminded that it’s better to have a humble heart and walk alongside those who are struggling than to live with pride and selfish ambition. But why is that? Humility opens the door to serving others and connecting with them on a deeper level. On the flip side, pride often leads us to want recognition or rewards that are empty and fleeting.

In Psalm 59, David calls out to God for deliverance from those who are against him, showing us that when life gets tough and people turn against us, it’s okay to ask God for help. Finally, in Galatians 6:2, Paul encourages us to carry each other’s burdens—whether that’s emotional, physical, or spiritual struggles. This is what it means to love others as Christ loved us.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Humility vs. Pride: Are you more likely to lift others up or try to get ahead of them? How can you embrace humility and avoid the trap of pride in your daily life?

2. Dealing with Opposition: When you face opposition or feel like people are against you, how do you usually respond? How can you turn to God for strength and guidance in those moments?

3. Helping Others: What burdens do the people around you carry? How can you practically help lighten their load and show Christ’s love to them?

BOTTOM LINE

Humility leads to peace and connection with others, while pride can isolate us. We are called to help bear one another’s burdens and seek God’s strength when facing struggles.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for reminding me of the importance of humility and the need to help others. Help me to be mindful of others’ struggles and show love by bearing their burdens with them. When I feel weighed down, help me to turn to You for strength. May my life reflect Your love, and may I live humbly, just as You have called me to. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
