“A worthless man plots evil, and his speech is like a scorching fire. A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends.” — Proverbs 16:27-28
“Lead me to the rock that is higher than I, for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.” — Psalm 61:2b-3
“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” — Ephesians 4:29

Words can be powerful. You’ve probably felt it—whether someone made you feel amazing with a compliment or crushed your spirit with a mean comment. Proverbs 16 warns about people who stir up drama, lie, or tear others down with their words. It’s a reminder that how we talk matters.
Ephesians 4:29 says we should use our words to build others up and give grace to those listening. That doesn’t mean being fake or overly sweet—it means being intentional, kind, and truthful. And when we’re overwhelmed or tempted to snap, Psalm 61 shows us where to run: straight to God, our refuge and strong tower. He’s the one who helps us keep our words (and hearts) in check when everything around us feels loud and messy.

THINK ABOUT IT
1. Check Your Words: Are your words helping or hurting others? Think about your recent texts, posts, or conversations—are they building people up or tearing them down?
2. Guard Your Heart: What kind of things are you letting into your mind and heart (music, shows, friends)? Could any of those be influencing the way you speak?
3. Run to the Rock: When you’re stressed, angry, or tempted to say something you shouldn’t, how can you turn to God like David did in Psalm 61?

BOTTOM LINE
Your words hold power. Use them to encourage, not destroy. God is your safe place, and He can help you speak with grace—even when it’s tough.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, help me to be careful with my words. I want what I say to reflect Your love, not cause hurt or division. When I’m tempted to speak out of anger or frustration, remind me to run to You first. Be my strength and guide. Teach me how to build others up and bring grace into every conversation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
