“Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life. Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” — Proverbs 16:31-32

“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us. Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” — Ephesians 5: 1-2, 15-16

In a world that celebrates flashy moments, loud personalities, and instant reactions, God’s Word points us in a different direction. Proverbs 16:32 says real strength isn’t about being the toughest or loudest—it’s about self-control. Controlling your reactions, holding your anger, and being wise in how you live takes true inner strength.

That’s not easy, especially in high-stress moments like group chats blowing up, drama at school, or family tension. But Ephesians 5 reminds us that we’re called to imitate God—to walk in love and live wisely, using our time well. When you choose patience over lashing out, or love over bitterness, you’re showing the world what God’s strength really looks like in everyday life.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Real Power: What does it look like to “rule your spirit” in real-life situations—like when someone makes you mad or pushes your buttons?

2. Time Check: How are you spending your time? Are you using it in ways that reflect God’s wisdom and love—or are there areas that could shift?

3. Walking Like Jesus: Think about how Jesus showed love through self-control and sacrifice. What’s one way you can “walk in love” today?

BOTTOM LINE

Real strength isn’t about being the loudest or most powerful—it’s about living with love, patience, and wisdom, just like Jesus.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help me grow strong on the inside. Teach me to be slow to anger and quick to love. Show me how to make wise choices with my time and how to reflect Your heart in the way I treat others. I want to live like Jesus, even when it’s hard. Thank You for Your Spirit that gives me strength. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
