“Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.” — Proverbs 14:29 (ESV)

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” — Psalm 46:10 (ESV)

“For I delight in the law of God, in my inner being, but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin.” — Romans 7:22–23 (ESV)

Do you ever feel like life is moving too fast—like your emotions, thoughts, and responsibilities are all rushing at you at once? Maybe it’s a fight with a friend, pressure from school, or just the stress of figuring out who you are and what God wants for your life. Proverbs 14:29 reminds us that slowing down before we react shows true strength, not weakness. Psalm 46:10 calls us to “be still” and trust that God is in control, even when everything feels like chaos. And in Romans 7, Paul talks about the inner struggle we all face between what we know is right and the mistakes we still make.

Here’s the thing: God doesn’t expect us to have it all together. Instead, He invites us to pause, trust Him, and let His strength carry us through the mess. Being still isn’t about doing nothing—it’s about choosing peace over panic, trust over fear, and prayer over impulse.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Pause Before You React: What situations this week have made you want to react quickly or out of anger? How can slowing down help you respond in a way that honors God?

2. Be Still in the Struggle: Where in your life do you feel like there’s a battle between what you want to do and what God calls you to do? How can you invite God’s peace into that struggle?

3. Trust His Control: When life feels overwhelming, what does it look like for you to “be still and know” that God is in control (Psalm 46:10)?

BOTTOM LINE

True strength comes when we pause, trust God, and let His peace guide our hearts before we act.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my peace when life feels chaotic. Help me to slow down, trust You more, and remember that You are in control even when I feel overwhelmed. Teach me to respond with wisdom, choose stillness over anger, and rely on Your strength in every struggle. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Welcome to Bible Chat, where we
have devotional conversations

2
00:00:06,120 –> 00:00:11,080
rooted in Scripture and relevant
for today, April 23rd.

3
00:00:11,280 –> 00:00:14,360
Strength and stillness.
Sometimes the strongest thing

4
00:00:14,360 –> 00:00:17,520
you can do is pause.
Not react, not defend yourself

5
00:00:17,520 –> 00:00:21,960
immediately, not let anger or
anxiety take the steering wheel.

6
00:00:23,120 –> 00:00:27,440
Proverbs chapter 14 verse 29
says whoever is slow to anger

7
00:00:27,440 –> 00:00:31,040
has great understanding, but he
who has a hasty temper exalts

8
00:00:31,040 –> 00:00:33,600
folly.
In a world that rewards quick

9
00:00:33,600 –> 00:00:36,920
reactions.
God teaches us the strength of

10
00:00:36,920 –> 00:00:41,280
self-control.
Psalm 46 verse 10 says be still

11
00:00:41,280 –> 00:00:44,840
and know that I am God.
Stillness is not weakness, it is

12
00:00:44,840 –> 00:00:47,880
trust.
It is choosing to remember that

13
00:00:47,880 –> 00:00:51,320
God is God even when your
emotions are loud and your

14
00:00:51,320 –> 00:00:57,240
circumstances feel chaotic.
Romans Chapter 7 verses 22 to 23

15
00:00:57,560 –> 00:01:00,640
reminds us that even Paul knew
the struggle of wanting what is

16
00:01:00,640 –> 00:01:03,200
right while feeling another
battle inside.

17
00:01:03,800 –> 00:01:07,720
That inner battle is real.
You may want to be patient but

18
00:01:07,720 –> 00:01:10,200
still snap.
You may want to trust God but

19
00:01:10,200 –> 00:01:12,680
still panic.
You may want to do what is right

20
00:01:12,680 –> 00:01:16,320
but feel pulled the other way.
God is not surprised by that

21
00:01:16,320 –> 00:01:18,880
struggle.
He meets you in it.

22
00:01:19,240 –> 00:01:21,680
Being still does not mean
ignoring problems.

23
00:01:22,160 –> 00:01:24,880
It means refusing to let the
problem become bigger in your

24
00:01:24,880 –> 00:01:28,040
heart than God.
It means breathing before you

25
00:01:28,040 –> 00:01:30,880
speak, praying before you act,
and surrendering before you

26
00:01:30,880 –> 00:01:33,360
spiral.
Today, when pressure rises,

27
00:01:33,360 –> 00:01:35,120
pause.
Ask God for wisdom.

28
00:01:35,560 –> 00:01:39,560
Let His peace slow you down.
You do not have to be controlled

29
00:01:39,560 –> 00:01:42,920
by every emotion that passes
through you in Christ.

30
00:01:43,120 –> 00:01:45,240
You can respond with
understanding instead of

31
00:01:45,240 –> 00:01:48,240
impulse.
There’s strength in stillness

32
00:01:48,240 –> 00:01:50,640
because stillness makes room for
God’s voice.

33
00:01:51,120 –> 00:01:53,760
Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father, thank you for

34
00:01:53,760 –> 00:01:57,160
being steady.
When I feel overwhelmed, help me

35
00:01:57,160 –> 00:01:59,840
slow down before I react and
trust You in the middle of my

36
00:01:59,840 –> 00:02:02,520
struggles.
Teach me to be still, to

37
00:02:02,520 –> 00:02:05,920
remember that you are God, and
to respond with wisdom instead

38
00:02:05,920 –> 00:02:08,800
of anger.
Let your peace guide my heart

39
00:02:08,800 –> 00:02:11,400
today.
In Jesus name, Amen.

40
00:02:15,800 –> 00:02:18,560
What if you could rise up and
declare with full spiritual

41
00:02:18,560 –> 00:02:21,200
authority, I shall not die but
live?

lack of people is the
destruction of the Prince.

00:03:31,600 –> 00:03:34,720
He who is slow to anger has

has a quick temper displays
folly.

trouble.

69
00:03:50,600 –> 00:03:54,040
Therefore we won’t be afraid.
Though the earth changes, though

70
00:03:54,040 –> 00:03:57,040
the mountains are shaken into
the heart of the Seas, though

71

its waters roar and are
troubled, though the mountains

00:04:00,760 –> 00:04:03,720
tremble with their swelling.
Selah.

73
00:04:03,720 –> 00:04:06,880
There is a river, the streams of
which make the city of God glad.

00:04:07,000 –> 00:04:10,760
The holy place of the tents of
the Most High God is within her.

God will help her.

At dawn the nations raged, the
kingdoms were moved.

77
00:04:17,440 –> 00:04:19,440
He lifted his voice and the
earth melted.

78
00:04:19,600 –> 00:04:23,120
Yahweh of armies is with us.
The God of Jacob is our refuge.

Come see Yahweh’s works.

What desolations He has made in
the earth.

81
00:04:28,840 –> 00:04:30,840
He makes wars cease to the end
of the earth.

82
00:04:31,160 –> 00:04:33,400
He breaks the bow and shatters
the spear.

83
00:04:33,800 –> 00:04:35,600
He burns the Chariots in the
fire.

84
00:04:36,720 –> 00:04:39,880
Be still and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the

85
00:04:39,880 –> 00:04:42,000
nations.
I will be exalted in the earth.

86

Yahweh of armies is with us.
The God of Jacob is our refuge.

87
00:04:46,280 –> 00:04:50,320
Selah.
Romans Chapter 7 World English

88
00:04:50,320 –> 00:04:52,720
Bible.
Or don’t you know brothers?

89
00:04:52,760 –> 00:04:55,920
For I speak to men who know the
law, that the law has dominion

90
00:04:55,920 –> 00:04:57,640
over a man for as long as he
lives.

91
00:04:58,720 –> 00:05:01,720
For the woman that has a husband
is bound by law to the husband

92
00:05:01,720 –> 00:05:04,840
while he lives.
But if the husband dies, she is

93
00:05:04,840 –> 00:05:06,680
discharged from the law of the
husband.

94
00:05:07,800 –> 00:05:10,960
So then if while the husband
lives, she is joined to another

95
00:05:10,960 –> 00:05:13,120
man, she would be called an
adulteress.

96
00:05:14,240 –> 00:05:17,280
But if the husband dies, she is
free from the law, so that she

97
00:05:17,280 –> 00:05:20,440
is no adulteress, though she is
joined to another man.

98
00:05:21,560 –> 00:05:24,640
Therefore, my brothers, you also
were made dead to the law

99
00:05:24,640 –> 00:05:27,640
through the body of Christ, that
you would be joined to another,

100
00:05:27,920 –> 00:05:30,880
to him who was raised from the
dead, that we might produce

101
00:05:30,880 –> 00:05:34,040
fruit to God.
For when we were in the flesh,

102
00:05:34,440 –> 00:05:37,120
the sinful passions which were
through the law worked in our

103
00:05:37,120 –> 00:05:39,040
members to bring out fruit to
death.

104
00:05:40,200 –> 00:05:43,160
But now we have been discharged
from the law, having died to

105
00:05:43,160 –> 00:05:46,280
that in which we were held, so
that we serve in newness of the

106
00:05:46,280 –> 00:05:48,520
Spirit, and not in oldness of
the letter.

107
00:05:49,040 –> 00:05:52,280
What shall we say then?
Is the law sin?

108
00:05:52,480 –> 00:05:54,800
May it never be.
However, I wouldn’t have known

109
00:05:54,800 –> 00:05:58,240
sin except through the law.
For I wouldn’t have known

110
00:05:58,240 –> 00:06:01,320
coveting unless the law had
said, You shall not covet.

111
00:06:01,960 –> 00:06:05,560
But sin finding occasion through
the commandment, produced in me

112
00:06:05,560 –> 00:06:09,440
all kinds of coveting.
For apart from the law sin is

113
00:06:09,440 –> 00:06:11,640
dead.
I was alive apart from the law

114
00:06:11,640 –> 00:06:15,120
once, but when the commandment
came, sin revived, and I died.

115
00:06:16,240 –> 00:06:19,040
The commandment which was for
life, this I found to be for

116
00:06:19,040 –> 00:06:21,640
death.
For sin finding occasion through

117
00:06:21,640 –> 00:06:24,520
the commandment deceived me, and
through it killed me.

118
00:06:25,640 –> 00:06:28,840
Therefore the Law indeed is
holy, and the commandment holy,

119
00:06:28,840 –> 00:06:31,720
righteous, and good.
Did then that which is good

120
00:06:31,720 –> 00:06:36,080
become death to me?
May it never be but sin that it

121
00:06:36,080 –> 00:06:39,160
might be shown to be Sin was
producing death in me through

122
00:06:39,160 –> 00:06:42,680
that which is good, that through
the commandment sin might become

123
00:06:42,680 –> 00:06:46,120
exceedingly sinful.
For we know that the Law is

124
00:06:46,120 –> 00:06:48,920
spiritual.
But I am fleshly sold under sin.

125
00:06:49,320 –> 00:06:51,120
For I don’t understand what I am
doing.

126
00:06:51,560 –> 00:06:54,640
For I don’t practice what I
desire to do, but what I hate

127
00:06:54,640 –> 00:06:57,840
that I do.
But if what I don’t desire that

128
00:06:57,840 –> 00:07:00,160
I do, I consent to the law that
it is good.

129
00:07:00,680 –> 00:07:04,080
So now it is no more I that do
it, but sin which dwells in me.

130
00:07:05,120 –> 00:07:08,880
For I know that in me that is in
my flesh dwells no good thing.

131
00:07:09,400 –> 00:07:12,440
For desire is present with me,
but I don’t find it doing that

132
00:07:12,440 –> 00:07:15,800
which is good.
For the good which I desire I

133
00:07:15,800 –> 00:07:19,120
don’t do, but the evil which I
don’t desire that I practice.

134
00:07:19,680 –> 00:07:22,840
But if what I don’t desire that
I do, it is no more I that do

135
00:07:22,840 –> 00:07:27,240
it, but sin which dwells in me.
I find then the law that while I

136
00:07:27,240 –> 00:07:29,440
desire to do good, evil is
present.

137
00:07:30,520 –> 00:07:33,280
For I delight in God’s law after
the inward person.

138
00:07:33,760 –> 00:07:37,080
But I see a different law in my
members, warring against the law

139
00:07:37,080 –> 00:07:41,520
of my mind, and bringing me into
captivity under the law of sin

140
00:07:41,760 –> 00:07:45,880
which is in my members.
What a wretched man I am who

141
00:07:45,880 –> 00:07:47,640
will deliver me out of the body
of this death.

142
00:07:48,080 –> 00:07:50,440
I thank God through Jesus Christ
our Lord.

143
00:07:50,880 –> 00:07:53,960
So then with the mind, I myself
serve God’s law, but with the

144
00:07:53,960 –> 00:07:58,760
flesh sins law.
