“In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.” — Proverbs 14:26–27 (ESV)
“We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.” — Romans 6:6 (ESV)

Do you ever feel like life is full of pressure—from grades, sports, friendships, or even your own expectations? It can feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world. But Proverbs 14 tells us that when we live in the fear of the Lord—a deep respect and trust in God—we find confidence and even a refuge, a safe place. And Romans 6 reminds us that because of Jesus, we’re not stuck in our old mistakes or habits. The cross sets us free so we can live with confidence instead of fear.
It’s like this: sin and fear try to chain us down, whispering lies that we’re not enough or that we can’t change. But the moment we trust God and live in awe of Him, we discover the freedom and life He offers. Following Jesus doesn’t make life perfect, but it does give us the strength to face it without fear.

THINK ABOUT IT
1. Confidence in God: What does it mean to find confidence in the “fear of the Lord” (Proverbs 14:26)? How is this different from being afraid of God?
2. Freedom from the Past: Romans 6:6 says we’re no longer slaves to sin. What old habits, fears, or mistakes do you need to leave behind so you can live free in Christ?
3. Living Boldly: How can knowing you have a “refuge” in God change the way you handle stress, peer pressure, or self-doubt this week?
________________________________________
BOTTOM LINE
Trusting God brings confidence and freedom that fear and sin can never give.

00:00:02,440 –> 00:00:05,800
Welcome to Bible Chat where we
have devotional conversations
2
00:00:06,120 –> 00:00:11,120
rooted in Scripture and relevant
for today, April 22nd.
3
00:00:11,400 –> 00:00:14,680
Fearless and free.
Fear can make life feel smaller.
4
00:00:15,760 –> 00:00:18,920
It can make you hide, overthink,
compare, or believe you will
5
00:00:18,920 –> 00:00:23,120
never really change.
But Proverbs chapter 14 verses
6
00:00:23,120 –> 00:00:27,640
26 to 27 says in the fear of the
Lord one has strong confidence,
7
00:00:28,040 –> 00:00:30,200
and the fear of the Lord is a
fountain of life.
8
00:00:30,800 –> 00:00:33,800
That kind of fear is not terror,
it is reverence.
9
00:00:34,920 –> 00:00:38,200
It is deep respect, trust, and
all before the God who is holy,
10
00:00:38,200 –> 00:00:42,840
loving and strong.
Romans chapter 6 verse 6 says
11
00:00:42,840 –> 00:00:46,200
that our old self was crucified
with Christ so that we would no
12
00:00:46,200 –> 00:00:49,920
longer be enslaved to sin.
That means your past does not
13
00:00:49,920 –> 00:00:53,480
have the final word.
Your old patterns do not own
14
00:00:53,480 –> 00:00:55,320
you.
The shame you carry does not get
15
00:00:55,320 –> 00:00:58,360
to define you.
In Jesus, freedom is not just an
16
00:00:58,360 –> 00:01:02,320
idea, it is a new reality.
Sin and fear often whisper the
17
00:01:02,320 –> 00:01:03,800
same lie.
You are stuck.
18
00:01:04,879 –> 00:01:07,400
You cannot change.
This is just who you are.
19
00:01:07,640 –> 00:01:09,440
But the cross tells a better
story.
20
00:01:09,920 –> 00:01:13,080
Jesus did not die and rise again
so you could remain chained to
21
00:01:13,080 –> 00:01:15,840
the same darkness.
He came to make you free.
22
00:01:16,840 –> 00:01:19,840
Following God does not mean life
becomes easy overnight.
23
00:01:20,280 –> 00:01:23,320
You may still feel pressure,
temptation, stress and self
24
00:01:23,320 –> 00:01:27,000
doubt, but now you have a
refuge, you have a place to run,
25
00:01:28,080 –> 00:01:30,440
you have a Savior who gives
strength when you feel weak.
26
00:01:30,880 –> 00:01:34,080
So walk today with confidence,
not because you are in control,
27
00:01:34,080 –> 00:01:37,800
but because God is.
Honor him, trust Him, run to
28
00:01:37,800 –> 00:01:40,480
Him.
The fear of the Lord does not
29
00:01:40,480 –> 00:01:42,920
trap you, it frees you to live
with courage.
30
00:01:43,240 –> 00:01:45,760
Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father, thank you for
31
00:01:45,760 –> 00:01:49,960
being my refuge and strength.
Help me live in holy awe of you,
32
00:01:50,240 –> 00:01:52,480
not in fear of my past or my
weaknesses.
33
00:01:53,040 –> 00:01:56,040
Remind me that in Christ I am no
longer a slave to sin.
34
00:01:56,560 –> 00:02:00,840
Teach me to walk in freedom,
confidence and trust today in
35
00:02:00,960 –> 00:02:07,800
Jesus name, Amen.
What if you could rise up and
36
00:02:07,800 –> 00:02:11,680
declare with full spiritual
authority, I shall not die, but
37
00:02:11,680 –> 00:02:14,280
live?

Bible reading plan.
Proverbs chapter 14, verses 26
58
00:03:13,000 –> 00:03:17,720
to 27 World English Bible in the
fear of Yahweh is a secure
59
00:03:17,720 –> 00:03:20,560
fortress, and he will be a
refuge for his children.
60
00:03:21,680 –> 00:03:24,520
The fear of Yahweh is a fountain
of life, turning people from the
61
00:03:24,520 –> 00:03:28,360
snares of death.
Romans chapter 6 World English
62
00:03:28,360 –> 00:03:32,040
Bible What shall we say then?
Shall we continue in sin, that
63
00:03:32,040 –> 00:03:36,080
grace may abound?
May it never be we who died to
64
00:03:36,080 –> 00:03:37,640
sin.
How could we live in it any
65
00:03:37,640 –> 00:03:39,960
longer?
Or don’t you know that all of us
66
00:03:39,960 –> 00:03:43,040
who were baptized into Christ
Jesus were baptized into his
67
00:03:43,040 –> 00:03:45,800
death?
We were buried, therefore, with
68
00:03:45,800 –> 00:03:49,600
him through baptism into death.
That just as Christ was raised
69
00:03:49,600 –> 00:03:52,800
from the dead through the glory
of the Father, so we also might
70
00:03:52,800 –> 00:03:56,560
walk in newness of life.
For if we have become united
71
00:03:56,560 –> 00:03:59,720
with Him in the likeness of his
death, we will also be part of
72
00:03:59,720 –> 00:04:03,000
his resurrection.
Knowing this, that our old man
73
00:04:03,000 –> 00:04:07,120
was crucified with him, that the
body of sin might be done away
74
00:04:07,120 –> 00:04:10,280
with so that we would no longer
be in bondage to sin.
75
00:04:11,360 –> 00:04:13,600
For he who has died has been
freed from sin.
76
00:04:14,160 –> 00:04:17,079
But if we died with Christ, we
believe that we will also live
77
00:04:17,079 –> 00:04:20,680
with him, knowing that Christ,
being raised from the dead, dies
78
00:04:20,680 –> 00:04:24,320
no more death, no longer has
dominion over him.
79
00:04:24,800 –> 00:04:28,160
For the death that he died, He
died to sin one time, but the
80
00:04:28,160 –> 00:04:30,160
life that he lives, he lives to
God.
81
00:04:31,280 –> 00:04:35,320
Thus consider yourselves also to
be dead to sin, but alive to God
82
00:04:35,320 –> 00:04:38,920
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Therefore don’t let sin reign in
83
00:04:38,920 –> 00:04:41,720
your mortal body, that you
should obey it in its lusts.
84
00:04:42,840 –> 00:04:46,000
Also, do not present your
members to sin as instruments of
85
00:04:46,000 –> 00:04:49,680
unrighteousness, but present
yourselves to God as alive from
86
00:04:49,680 –> 00:04:52,960
the dead, and your members as
instruments of righteousness to
87
00:04:52,960 –> 00:04:55,920
God.
For sin will not have dominion
88
00:04:55,920 –> 00:04:58,560
over you, for you are not under
law, but under grace.
89
00:04:59,040 –> 00:05:01,440
What then?
Shall we sin because we are not
90
00:05:01,440 –> 00:05:04,240
under law, but under grace?
May it never be.
91
00:05:05,320 –> 00:05:07,920
Don’t you know that when you
present yourselves as servants
92
00:05:07,920 –> 00:05:10,960
and obey someone, you are the
servants of whomever you obey,
93
00:05:11,320 –> 00:05:14,520
whether of sin to death, or of
obedience to righteousness?
94
00:05:15,600 –> 00:05:18,520
But thanks be to God that
whereas you were bond servants
95
00:05:18,520 –> 00:05:21,680
of sin, you became obedient from
the heart to that form of
96
00:05:21,680 –> 00:05:23,280
teaching to which you were
delivered.
97
00:05:24,400 –> 00:05:27,240
Being made free from sin, you
became bond servants of
98
00:05:27,240 –> 00:05:31,000
righteousness.
I speak in human terms because
99
00:05:31,000 –> 00:05:33,920
of the weakness of your flesh.
For as you presented your
100
00:05:33,920 –> 00:05:37,080
members as servants to
uncleanness and to wickedness
101
00:05:37,080 –> 00:05:41,920
upon wickedness, Even so now
present your members as servants
102
00:05:41,920 –> 00:05:44,000
to righteousness for
sanctification.
103
00:05:45,080 –> 00:05:47,360
For when you were servants of
sin, you were free from
104
00:05:47,360 –> 00:05:49,880
righteousness.
What fruit then did you have at
105
00:05:49,880 –> 00:05:52,240
that time in the things of which
you are now ashamed?
106
00:05:52,680 –> 00:05:54,360
For the end of those things is
death.
107
00:05:55,480 –> 00:05:59,000
But now, being made free from
sin, and having become servants
108
00:05:59,000 –> 00:06:02,560
of God, you have your fruit of
sanctification, and the result
109
00:06:02,560 –> 00:06:06,200
of eternal life.
For the wages of sin is death,
110
00:06:06,640 –> 00:06:10,040
but the free gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our
111
00:06:10,040 –> 00:06:14,080
Lord.
