“The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands tears it down. Whoever walks in uprightness fears the Lord, but he who is devious in his ways despises him.” — Proverbs 14:1–2 (ESV)

“For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” — Mark 7:21–23 (ESV)

Have you ever built something—maybe a LEGO set or even just a tower of cards—only to see it fall apart because one wrong piece got moved? That’s kind of what Proverbs 14:1 is saying: wisdom builds, but foolish choices can tear down what you’ve worked so hard to create. In Mark 7, Jesus reminds us that what’s in our hearts matters most because what’s inside eventually shapes what we say, do, and build in our lives. If our hearts are filled with anger, jealousy, or pride, it’s like putting cracks in the foundation. But when we walk uprightly, trusting God with our choices, He helps us build lives that last.

The good news? Jesus doesn’t just point out the problem—He offers a new heart. When we invite Him into our decisions, relationships, and habits, He helps us clean out the junk and rebuild on a solid foundation.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Check the Inside: What thoughts or attitudes have been shaping your words and actions lately? Are they building up your life—or tearing it down?

2. Choose Wisdom: Proverbs 14:2 says walking in uprightness shows we fear the Lord. What’s one wise choice you can make this week that honors God?

3. Build with Jesus: If Jesus were the builder of your life, what changes would He want to make in your heart to strengthen your foundation?

________________________________________

BOTTOM LINE

What’s in your heart shapes what you build—so let God transform the inside first.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me that what’s in my heart matters most. Help me to clear out anything that doesn’t honor You and fill me with wisdom and love that builds a life that lasts. Teach me to trust You with every choice I make so my life reflects Your goodness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

00:00:02,440 –> 00:00:05,800
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we
have devotional conversations

2
00:00:06,120 –> 00:00:10,960
rooted in Scripture and relevant
for today, April 7th.

3
00:00:12,080 –> 00:00:15,400
Building from the inside out.
Most of us spend a lot of time

4
00:00:15,400 –> 00:00:18,520
thinking about the outside of
our lives, what people think of

5
00:00:18,520 –> 00:00:23,320
us, how we come across, whether
we seem strong, successful,

6
00:00:23,320 –> 00:00:27,280
spiritual, or put together.
But Jesus always brings us back

7
00:00:27,280 –> 00:00:30,320
to the deeper place, the hidden
place, the place beneath

8
00:00:30,320 –> 00:00:34,360
appearances.
Proverbs chapter 14, verses one

9
00:00:34,360 –> 00:00:37,920
to two says that wisdom builds,
but folly tears down.

10
00:00:38,480 –> 00:00:42,920
And in Mark Chapter 7, verses 21
to 23, Jesus says that the

11
00:00:42,920 –> 00:00:47,080
things that defile a person come
from within the heart that is

12
00:00:47,080 –> 00:00:49,680
deeply honest and deeply hopeful
at the same time.

13
00:00:50,200 –> 00:00:53,320
Honest because it means our
biggest problem is not just out

14
00:00:53,320 –> 00:00:58,280
there somewhere, it is in here.
Pride, envy, bitterness,

15
00:00:58,360 –> 00:01:02,360
selfishness, lust and deceit can
quietly grow inside us long

16
00:01:02,360 –> 00:01:06,040
before anyone else notices.
We can look fine on the outside

17
00:01:06,040 –> 00:01:08,520
while something unhealthy is
shaping us from within.

18
00:01:09,640 –> 00:01:12,040
And eventually what is inside
spills out.

19
00:01:12,520 –> 00:01:15,480
It affects our words, our
relationships, our decisions,

20
00:01:15,520 –> 00:01:17,280
and what we are building with
our lives.

21
00:01:18,360 –> 00:01:22,200
But this is also hopeful because
Jesus is not just exposing the

22
00:01:22,200 –> 00:01:25,040
problem.
He is inviting transformation.

23
00:01:25,480 –> 00:01:28,320
He is able to cleanse what is
hidden and rebuild what has been

24
00:01:28,320 –> 00:01:31,120
weakened.
He can deal with the motives

25
00:01:31,120 –> 00:01:33,800
beneath the behavior and the
wound beneath the reaction.

26
00:01:34,280 –> 00:01:36,160
He does not just want better
habits from you.

27
00:01:36,600 –> 00:01:39,400
He wants your heart.
A wise life is built from the

28
00:01:39,400 –> 00:01:42,640
inside out.
It starts with surrender.

29
00:01:42,960 –> 00:01:45,360
It starts with letting God
search you honestly.

30
00:01:45,640 –> 00:01:48,800
Where is jealousy taking root?
Where is anger controlling you?

31
00:01:49,160 –> 00:01:51,080
Where is pride making you hard
to teach?

32
00:01:52,200 –> 00:01:54,120
These are not questions meant to
shame you.

33
00:01:54,440 –> 00:01:57,560
They are invitations to healing.
You do not have to keep patching

34
00:01:57,560 –> 00:01:59,400
the outside while the inside
cracks.

35
00:01:59,880 –> 00:02:02,480
Bring your heart to Jesus.
Let Him make it new.

36
00:02:03,560 –> 00:02:06,280
What He changes within you will
begin to shape everything around

37
00:02:06,280 –> 00:02:07,760
you.
Let’s pray.

38
00:02:08,120 –> 00:02:11,240
Heavenly Father, thank You that
You care about my heart, not

39
00:02:11,240 –> 00:02:14,600
just my image.
Search me and show me anything

40
00:02:14,600 –> 00:02:16,240
in me that needs your healing
and truth.

41
00:02:16,840 –> 00:02:20,680
Clean out what is sinful,
bitter, proud, or unloving and

42
00:02:20,680 –> 00:02:22,280
fill me with a heart that
reflects you.

43
00:02:23,400 –> 00:02:26,400
Help me build my life with
wisdom, integrity and surrender

44
00:02:26,400 –> 00:02:30,200
so that what grows in me honors
you in Jesus name, Amen.

45
00:02:34,520 –> 00:02:37,320
What if you could rise up and
declare with full spiritual

46
00:02:37,320 –> 00:02:39,920
authority, I shall not die, but
live?

with God in today’s three-year

67
00:03:38,360 –> 00:03:42,400
Proverbs chapter 14 verses one
to two World English Bible.

68
00:03:42,920 –> 00:03:46,200
Every wise woman builds her
house, but the foolish one tears

69
00:03:46,200 –> 00:03:50,240
it down with her own hands.
He who walks in his uprightness

70
00:03:50,240 –> 00:03:53,440
fears Yahweh, but he who is
perverse in his ways despises

71
00:03:53,440 –> 00:03:56,480
him.
Mark Chapter 7 World English

72
00:03:56,480 –> 00:03:59,680
Bible.
Then the Pharisees and some of

73
00:03:59,680 –> 00:04:03,320
the scribes gathered together to
him, having come from Jerusalem.

74
00:04:04,480 –> 00:04:06,920
Now when they saw some of his
disciples eating bread with

75
00:04:06,920 –> 00:04:10,640
defiled, that is, unwashed
hands, they found fault.

76
00:04:11,760 –> 00:04:15,080
For the Pharisees and all the
Jews don’t eat unless they wash

77
00:04:15,080 –> 00:04:18,120
their hands and forearms,
holding to the tradition of the

78
00:04:18,120 –> 00:04:20,800
elders.
They don’t eat when they come

79
00:04:20,800 –> 00:04:23,200
from the marketplace unless they
bathe themselves.

80
00:04:23,560 –> 00:04:25,960
And there are many other things
which they have received to hold

81
00:04:25,960 –> 00:04:31,800
to washings of cups, pitchers,
bronze vessels and couches.

82
00:04:32,240 –> 00:04:35,160
The Pharisees and the scribes
asked him, Why don’t your

83
00:04:35,160 –> 00:04:38,360
disciples walk according to the
tradition of the elders, but eat

84
00:04:38,360 –> 00:04:42,960
their bread with unwashed hands?
He answered them, Well did

85
00:04:42,960 –> 00:04:45,800
Isaiah prophecy of you
hypocrites as it is written.

86
00:04:46,200 –> 00:04:49,400
This people honors Me with their
lips, but their heart is far

87
00:04:49,400 –> 00:04:52,360
from me.
They worship Me in vain,

88
00:04:52,480 –> 00:04:54,680
teaching as doctrines the
commandments of men.

89
00:04:55,320 –> 00:04:58,000
For you set aside the
commandment of God, and hold

90
00:04:58,000 –> 00:05:01,080
tightly to the tradition of men
the washing of pitchers and

91
00:05:01,080 –> 00:05:04,360
cups, and you do many other such
things.

92
00:05:04,800 –> 00:05:07,720
He said to them Full well, do
you reject the commandment of

93
00:05:07,720 –> 00:05:09,720
God, that you may keep your
tradition.

94
00:05:10,840 –> 00:05:14,320
For Moses said, honor your
father and your mother, and he

95
00:05:14,320 –> 00:05:17,320
who speaks evil of father or
mother, let him be put to death.

96
00:05:17,960 –> 00:05:22,360
But you say if a man tells his
father or his mother whatever

97
00:05:22,360 –> 00:05:25,560
profit you might have received
from me is Corbin, that is to

98
00:05:25,560 –> 00:05:29,480
say, given to God, then you no
longer allow him to do anything

99
00:05:29,480 –> 00:05:33,800
for his father or his mother,
making void the word of God by

100
00:05:33,800 –> 00:05:35,760
your tradition which you have
handed down.

101
00:05:36,880 –> 00:05:40,160
You do many things like this.
He called all the multitude to

102
00:05:40,160 –> 00:05:43,880
himself, and said to them, Hear
me, all of you, and understand.

103
00:05:45,040 –> 00:05:48,000
There is nothing from outside of
the man that going into him can

104
00:05:48,000 –> 00:05:50,640
defile him.
But the things which proceed out

105
00:05:50,640 –> 00:05:52,960
of the man are those that defile
the man.

106
00:05:54,040 –> 00:05:56,440
If anyone has ears to hear, let
him hear.

107
00:05:56,840 –> 00:05:59,920
When he had entered into a house
away from the multitude, his

108
00:05:59,920 –> 00:06:01,960
disciples asked him about the
parable.

109
00:06:02,360 –> 00:06:05,280
He said to them, Are you also
without understanding?

110
00:06:06,480 –> 00:06:09,280
Don’t you perceive that whatever
goes into the man from outside

111
00:06:09,280 –> 00:06:12,800
can’t defile him, because it
doesn’t go into his heart but

112
00:06:12,800 –> 00:06:16,680
into his stomach, then into the
latrine making all foods clean?

113
00:06:16,960 –> 00:06:21,480
He said that which proceeds out
of the man that defiles the man.

114
00:06:22,600 –> 00:06:25,480
For from within, out of the
hearts of men, proceed evil

115
00:06:25,480 –> 00:06:28,800
thoughts, adulteries, sexual
sins, murders, thefts,

116
00:06:28,800 –> 00:06:32,400
covetings, wickedness, deceit,
lustful desires and evil eye,

117
00:06:32,400 –> 00:06:35,600
blasphemy, pride and
foolishness.

118
00:06:36,680 –> 00:06:39,640
All these evil things come from
within and defile the man.

119
00:06:40,240 –> 00:06:43,560
From there he arose and went
away into the borders of Tyre

120
00:06:43,560 –> 00:06:46,680
and Sidon.
He entered into a house and

121
00:06:46,680 –> 00:06:49,680
didn’t want anyone to know it.
But he couldn’t escape notice,

122
00:06:50,240 –> 00:06:52,920
for a woman whose little
daughter had an unclean spirit,

123
00:06:53,080 –> 00:06:55,920
having heard of him, came and
fell down at his feet.

124
00:06:57,000 –> 00:07:00,280
Now the woman was a Greek, a
Seraphonician by race.

125
00:07:00,680 –> 00:07:02,840
She begged him that he would
cast the demon out of her

126
00:07:02,840 –> 00:07:06,960
daughter, But Jesus said to her,
Let the children be filled

127
00:07:06,960 –> 00:07:10,080
first, for it is not appropriate
to take the children’s bread and

128
00:07:10,080 –> 00:07:13,960
throw it to the dogs.
But she answered him, Yes, Lord,

129
00:07:15,040 –> 00:07:17,920
yet even the dogs under the
table eat the children’s crumbs.

130
00:07:18,400 –> 00:07:23,000
He said to her, For this saying,
Go your way, the demon has gone

131
00:07:23,000 –> 00:07:26,000
out of your daughter.
She went away to her house and

132
00:07:26,000 –> 00:07:28,040
found the child having been laid
on the bed.

133
00:07:28,200 –> 00:07:32,360
With the demon gone out again.
He departed from the borders of

134
00:07:32,360 –> 00:07:35,800
Tyre and Sidon and came to the
Sea of Galilee through the

135
00:07:35,800 –> 00:07:37,520
middle of the region of
Decapolis.

136
00:07:38,600 –> 00:07:41,560
They brought to him one who was
deaf and had an impediment in

137
00:07:41,560 –> 00:07:44,120
his speech.
They begged him to lay his hand

138
00:07:44,120 –> 00:07:46,760
on him.
He took him aside from the

139
00:07:46,760 –> 00:07:50,560
multitude privately and put his
fingers into his ears, and he

140
00:07:50,560 –> 00:07:54,080
spat and touched his tongue.
Looking up to heaven.

141
00:07:54,080 –> 00:07:57,680
He sighed and said to him, If
Fatha that is be opened

142
00:07:58,280 –> 00:08:01,440
immediately his ears were opened
and the impediment of his tongue

143
00:08:01,440 –> 00:08:03,360
was released, and he spoke
clearly.

144
00:08:04,400 –> 00:08:07,080
He commanded them that they
should tell no one, but the more

145
00:08:07,080 –> 00:08:10,200
he commanded them so much the
more widely they proclaimed it.

146
00:08:10,800 –> 00:08:14,280
They were astonished beyond
measure, saying He has done all

147
00:08:14,280 –> 00:08:17,600
things well.
He makes even the deaf here and

148
00:08:17,600 –> 00:08:22,040
the mute speak.
