January 25 – Guard Your Heart, Guard Your Future

JANUARY 25 – Guard Your Heart, Guard Your Future

3-Year-Bible Reading: Proverbs 7:1–27; Psalm 110:1; Matthew 22

“Say to wisdom, ‘You are my sister,’ and call insight your intimate friend, to keep you from the forbidden woman, from the adulteress with her smooth words.” — Proverbs 7:4–5

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” — Matthew 22:37

Temptation doesn’t usually look dangerous—it often looks fun, exciting, even “harmless.” But Proverbs 7 paints a vivid picture of what happens when we follow temptation without thinking about the consequences. A young man is led astray by someone who flatters him with words and seduces him into making choices that eventually destroy him. It’s a warning for all of us: not everything that feels good is good for us.

Psalm 110 reminds us that God has given us power to rule—even in the middle of enemies. That includes temptation. And in Matthew 22:37, Jesus gives the key to staying strong: Love God with all your heart, soul, and mind. When God is your focus, and wisdom is your close friend, you’ll see temptation for what it really is—a trap.

Following Jesus isn’t about following rules. It’s about guarding your heart so you can walk in the freedom and future He has for you.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Flattery is a trap: Are there voices in your life (online, at school, in your DMs) that seem smooth and exciting—but are pulling you away from what’s right?

2. Wisdom is your friend: Who are the people or what are the habits in your life that help you grow wiser and stronger in your faith?

3. Love leads to strength: How can loving God more fully with your heart, soul, and mind help you make better choices when no one is watching?

________________________________________

BOTTOM LINE

When you guard your heart with wisdom and love God fully, you won’t fall for every trap that looks tempting.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help me to walk in wisdom and keep my heart focused on You. When temptation comes, give me strength to see through the lies and stand firm in Your truth. Teach me to love You with everything I am. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

1
00:00:02,440 –> 00:00:05,800
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we
have devotional conversations

2
00:00:06,120 –> 00:00:11,240
rooted in Scripture and relevant
for today, January 25th.

3
00:00:11,600 –> 00:00:13,280
Guard your heart, Guard your
future.

4
00:00:13,760 –> 00:00:16,520
Temptation rarely shows up
wearing warning labels.

5
00:00:16,880 –> 00:00:19,600
Most of the time it looks
exciting, flattering, and

6
00:00:19,600 –> 00:00:22,120
harmless.
It sounds like an opportunity,

7
00:00:22,160 –> 00:00:24,640
not a threat.
It feels like something you can

8
00:00:24,640 –> 00:00:26,880
control, not something that
could control you.

9
00:00:27,320 –> 00:00:30,000
That’s why Proverbs Chapter 7 is
so detailed.

10
00:00:30,600 –> 00:00:33,280
God isn’t being dramatic, He’s
being honest.

11
00:00:33,720 –> 00:00:36,560
He tells the story of someone
who didn’t plan to fall, didn’t

12
00:00:36,560 –> 00:00:39,640
think it would go that far, and
didn’t see the cost until it was

13
00:00:39,640 –> 00:00:41,800
too late.
The danger wasn’t just the

14
00:00:41,800 –> 00:00:44,080
moment, it was the path that led
there.

15
00:00:44,440 –> 00:00:48,600
In Proverbs Chapter 7, verses 4
to 5, we hear this invitation

16
00:00:49,080 –> 00:00:52,400
say to Wisdom, You are my
sister, and call insight your

17
00:00:52,400 –> 00:00:55,440
intimate friend, to keep you
from the forbidden woman, from

18
00:00:55,440 –> 00:00:57,320
the adulteress with her smooth
words.

19
00:00:58,000 –> 00:01:00,000
Notice how personal that
language is.

20
00:01:00,320 –> 00:01:02,320
Wisdom isn’t meant to be a
distant idea.

21
00:01:02,760 –> 00:01:05,960
It’s meant to be close, trusted,
familiar, and protective.

22
00:01:06,320 –> 00:01:09,600
When wisdom is near your heart,
it speaks up before temptation

23
00:01:09,600 –> 00:01:12,280
pulls you in.
It helps you see past smooth

24
00:01:12,280 –> 00:01:15,480
words and quick thrills to the
consequences hiding underneath.

25
00:01:16,000 –> 00:01:18,160
Jesus gives us the anchor for
guarding our hearts.

26
00:01:18,160 –> 00:01:23,200
In Matthew chapter 22 verse 37,
he says you shall love the Lord

27
00:01:23,200 –> 00:01:26,280
your God with all your heart and
with all your soul and with all

28
00:01:26,280 –> 00:01:28,800
your mind.
That kind of love changes

29
00:01:28,800 –> 00:01:31,160
everything.
When your heart is fully focused

30
00:01:31,160 –> 00:01:33,600
on God, temptation loses its
shine.

31
00:01:34,040 –> 00:01:37,200
When your mind is anchored in
truth, lies don’t sound as

32
00:01:37,200 –> 00:01:40,120
convincing.
Loving God fully doesn’t make

33
00:01:40,120 –> 00:01:43,160
you immune to temptation, but it
makes you stronger than it.

34
00:01:43,520 –> 00:01:45,840
Here’s the truth.
Whatever has your heart will

35
00:01:45,840 –> 00:01:48,200
shape your future.
If your heart is filled with

36
00:01:48,200 –> 00:01:51,640
desire for approval, attention,
or pleasure, those things will

37
00:01:51,640 –> 00:01:54,400
guide your choices.
But if your heart is filled with

38
00:01:54,400 –> 00:01:58,120
love for God, wisdom, and truth,
your decisions start to reflect

39
00:01:58,120 –> 00:02:00,520
that love even when no one is
watching.

40
00:02:00,840 –> 00:02:02,760
Guarding your heart isn’t about
fear.

41
00:02:03,160 –> 00:02:06,080
It’s about direction.
It’s about protecting the future

42
00:02:06,080 –> 00:02:09,720
God is building in you.
Temptation always promises more

43
00:02:09,720 –> 00:02:12,560
than it delivers.
It offers excitement but leaves

44
00:02:12,560 –> 00:02:15,080
regret.
It offers escape but creates

45
00:02:15,080 –> 00:02:17,440
bondage.
God’s way may require

46
00:02:17,440 –> 00:02:19,440
self-control, but it leads to
freedom.

47
00:02:19,760 –> 00:02:23,160
When wisdom is your close friend
and love for God is your deepest

48
00:02:23,160 –> 00:02:26,240
desire, you don’t have to fall
for every trap that looks

49
00:02:26,240 –> 00:02:28,280
appealing.
You’re not missing out.

50
00:02:28,280 –> 00:02:30,960
By guarding your heart, you’re
protecting your peace, your

51
00:02:30,960 –> 00:02:33,320
purpose, and the future God has
prepared for you.

52
00:02:33,920 –> 00:02:35,680
Choose wisdom.
Choose love.

53
00:02:35,960 –> 00:02:37,680
Choose the path that leads to
life.

54
00:02:38,120 –> 00:02:41,680
Let’s pray Heavenly Father, help
me guard my heart with wisdom

55
00:02:41,680 –> 00:02:45,240
and truth when temptation tries
to pull me in with smooth words

56
00:02:45,240 –> 00:02:48,200
and false promises.
Give me clarity and strength to

57
00:02:48,200 –> 00:02:50,560
walk away.
Teach me to love you with all my

58
00:02:50,560 –> 00:02:53,920
heart, soul and mind and let
that love guide every choice I

59
00:02:53,920 –> 00:02:56,320
make.
Protect my future as I choose

60
00:02:56,320 –> 00:02:59,080
your way today in Jesus name,
Amen.

61
00:02:59,960 –> 00:03:03,040
What if the ache you feel for
more is actually God calling you

62
00:03:03,040 –> 00:03:05,680
deeper?

Bible reading plan.
Proverbs Chapter 7, verses 1 to

86
00:04:23,320 –> 00:04:27,600
27 World English Bible.
My son, keep my words.

87
00:04:27,840 –> 00:04:29,360
Lay up my commandments within
you.

88
00:04:29,800 –> 00:04:33,080
Keep my commandments and live
guard my teaching as the apple

89
00:04:33,080 –> 00:04:35,040
of your eye.
Bind them on your fingers.

90
00:04:35,360 –> 00:04:37,080
Write them on the tablet of your
heart.

91
00:04:37,520 –> 00:04:41,040
Tell wisdom you are my sister.
Call understanding your

92
00:04:41,040 –> 00:04:44,080
relative, that they may keep you
from the strange woman, from the

93
00:04:44,080 –> 00:04:45,920
foreigner who flatters with her
words.

94
00:04:46,280 –> 00:04:49,200
For at the window of my house I
looked out through my lattice.

95
00:04:49,560 –> 00:04:53,040
I saw among the simple ones, I
discerned among the youths a

96
00:04:53,040 –> 00:04:55,560
young man, void of
understanding, passing through

97
00:04:55,560 –> 00:04:58,840
the street near her corner.
He went the way to her house in

98
00:04:58,840 –> 00:05:01,520
the twilight, in the evening of
the day, in the middle of the

99
00:05:01,520 –> 00:05:04,400
night and in the darkness.
Behold, there a woman met him

100
00:05:04,400 –> 00:05:07,280
with the attire of a prostitute
and with crafty intent.

101
00:05:07,720 –> 00:05:11,160
She is loud and defiant.
Her feet don’t stay in her house

102
00:05:11,480 –> 00:05:13,240
now.
She is in the streets now, in

103
00:05:13,240 –> 00:05:15,360
the squares and lurking at every
corner.

104
00:05:15,720 –> 00:05:18,920
So she caught him and kissed him
with an impudent face.

105
00:05:18,920 –> 00:05:22,400
She said to him, sacrifices of
peace, offerings are with me

106
00:05:22,680 –> 00:05:24,240
today.
I have paid my vows.

107
00:05:24,680 –> 00:05:27,240
Therefore I came out to meet
you, to diligently seek your

108
00:05:27,240 –> 00:05:30,080
face and I have found you.
I have spread my couch with

109
00:05:30,080 –> 00:05:33,480
carpets of tapestry with striped
clothes of the yarn of Egypt.

110
00:05:33,920 –> 00:05:36,920
I have perfumed my bed with
myrrh, aloes and cinnamon.

111
00:05:37,400 –> 00:05:40,120
Come, let’s take our fill of
loving until the morning.

112
00:05:40,560 –> 00:05:42,320
Let’s solace ourselves with
loving.

113
00:05:42,640 –> 00:05:46,000
For my husband isn’t at home.
He has gone on a long journey.

114
00:05:46,200 –> 00:05:47,880
He has taken a bag of money with
him.

115
00:05:48,000 –> 00:05:49,720
He will come home at the full
moon.

116
00:05:50,280 –> 00:05:52,560
With persuasive words she led
him astray.

117
00:05:52,920 –> 00:05:55,200
With the flattering of her lips
she seduced him.

118
00:05:55,560 –> 00:05:58,600
He followed her immediately.
As an ox goes to the slaughter,

119
00:05:58,600 –> 00:06:02,200
as a fool stepping into a noose,
until an arrow strikes through

120
00:06:02,200 –> 00:06:05,480
his liver, As a bird hurries to
the snare and doesn’t know that

121
00:06:05,480 –> 00:06:08,800
it will cost his life.
Now, therefore, sons, listen to

122
00:06:08,800 –> 00:06:10,840
me.
Pay attention to the words of my

123
00:06:10,840 –> 00:06:12,880
mouth.
Don’t let your heart turn to her

124
00:06:12,880 –> 00:06:15,240
ways.
Don’t go astray in her paths,

125
00:06:15,280 –> 00:06:16,960
for she has thrown down many
wounded.

126
00:06:17,440 –> 00:06:19,720
Yes, all her slain are a mighty
army.

127
00:06:20,040 –> 00:06:22,760
Her house is the way to she all
going down to the rooms of

128
00:06:22,760 –> 00:06:25,840
death.
Psalm chapter 110 verse one

129
00:06:26,040 –> 00:06:30,880
world English Bible a Psalm by
David Yahweh says to my Lord sit

130
00:06:30,880 –> 00:06:33,600
at my right hand until I make
your enemies your footstool for

131
00:06:33,600 –> 00:06:37,360
your feet.
Matthew Chapter 22 World English

132
00:06:37,360 –> 00:06:40,960
Bible Jesus answered and spoke
to them again in parables,

133
00:06:41,240 –> 00:06:45,000
saying the Kingdom of heaven is
like a certain king who made a

134
00:06:45,000 –> 00:06:48,200
wedding feast for his son and
sent out his servants to call

135
00:06:48,200 –> 00:06:51,040
those who were invited to the
wedding feast, but they would

136
00:06:51,040 –> 00:06:53,840
not come again.
He sent out other servants

137
00:06:53,840 –> 00:06:57,400
saying, tell those who are
invited, behold, I have prepared

138
00:06:57,400 –> 00:07:00,880
my dinner, my cattle and my
fatlings are killed, and all

139
00:07:00,880 –> 00:07:03,320
things are ready come to the
wedding feast.

140
00:07:03,800 –> 00:07:06,800
But they made light of it and
went their ways, one to his own

141
00:07:06,800 –> 00:07:09,840
farm, another to his
merchandise, and the rest

142
00:07:09,840 –> 00:07:12,640
grabbed his servants, treated
them shamefully, and killed

143
00:07:12,640 –> 00:07:14,680
them.
When the king heard that, he was

144
00:07:14,680 –> 00:07:17,800
angry and sent his armies,
destroyed those murderers and

145
00:07:17,800 –> 00:07:20,680
burned their city.
Then he said to his servants,

146
00:07:21,040 –> 00:07:23,960
the wedding is ready, but those
who were invited weren’t worthy.

147
00:07:24,280 –> 00:07:26,480
Go, therefore to the
intersections of the highways

148
00:07:26,760 –> 00:07:29,920
and as many as you may find,
invite to the wedding feast.

149
00:07:30,560 –> 00:07:33,440
Those servants went out into the
highways and gathered together,

150
00:07:33,440 –> 00:07:35,960
as many as they found both bad
and good.

151
00:07:36,440 –> 00:07:39,200
The wedding was filled with
guests, but when the king came

152
00:07:39,200 –> 00:07:42,200
in to see the guests, he saw
there a man who didn’t have on

153
00:07:42,200 –> 00:07:45,840
wedding clothing, and he said to
him, Friend, how did you come in

154
00:07:45,840 –> 00:07:47,520
here not wearing wedding
clothing?

155
00:07:48,000 –> 00:07:50,120
He was speechless.
Then the king said to the

156
00:07:50,120 –> 00:07:53,520
servants, bind him hand and
foot, take him away and throw

157
00:07:53,520 –> 00:07:56,520
him into the outer darkness.
That is where the weeping and

158
00:07:56,520 –> 00:08:00,120
grinding of teeth will be, for
many are called, but few chosen.

159
00:08:00,720 –> 00:08:03,760
Then the Pharisees went and took
counsel how they might entrap

160
00:08:03,760 –> 00:08:06,320
him in his talk.
They sent their disciples to him

161
00:08:06,320 –> 00:08:09,680
along with the Herodians,
saying, Teacher, we know that

162
00:08:09,680 –> 00:08:13,200
you are honest and teach the way
of God in truth, no matter whom

163
00:08:13,200 –> 00:08:15,720
you teach, for you aren’t
partial to anyone.

164
00:08:16,040 –> 00:08:17,720
Tell us, therefore, what do you
think?

165
00:08:17,960 –> 00:08:20,520
Is it lawful to pay taxes to
Caesar or not?

166
00:08:20,960 –> 00:08:23,840
But Jesus perceived their
wickedness and said, Why do you

167
00:08:23,840 –> 00:08:26,600
test me, you hypocrites?
Show me the tax money.

168
00:08:27,040 –> 00:08:30,280
They brought to him a denarius.
He asked them, whose is this

169
00:08:30,280 –> 00:08:33,400
image and inscription?
They said to him Caesar’s.

170
00:08:33,880 –> 00:08:36,520
Then he said to them, Give
therefore to Caesar the things

171
00:08:36,520 –> 00:08:39,039
that are Caesar’s, and to God
the things that are gods.

172
00:08:39,640 –> 00:08:42,039
When they heard it, they
marvelled and left him and went

173
00:08:42,039 –> 00:08:44,560
away.
On that day Sadducees, those who

174
00:08:44,560 –> 00:08:46,800
say that there is no
resurrection, came to him.

175
00:08:47,240 –> 00:08:51,600
They asked him, saying, Teacher
Moses said, If a man dies having

176
00:08:51,600 –> 00:08:54,440
no children, his brother shall
marry his wife and raise up

177
00:08:54,440 –> 00:08:57,600
offspring for his brother.
Now they were with us seven

178
00:08:57,600 –> 00:09:00,280
brothers.
The first married and died, and

179
00:09:00,280 –> 00:09:03,760
having no offspring, left his
wife to his brother in the same

180
00:09:03,760 –> 00:09:06,480
way the second also, and the 3rd
to the 7th.

181
00:09:06,960 –> 00:09:09,760
After them all the woman died in
the resurrection.

182
00:09:09,760 –> 00:09:11,920
Therefore whose wife will she be
of the seven?

183
00:09:12,120 –> 00:09:15,160
For they all had her, but Jesus
answered them.

184
00:09:15,400 –> 00:09:18,480
You are mistaken, not knowing
the Scriptures nor the power of

185
00:09:18,480 –> 00:09:20,360
God.
For in the resurrection they

186
00:09:20,360 –> 00:09:23,440
neither marry nor are given in
marriage, but are like God’s

187
00:09:23,440 –> 00:09:26,400
angels in heaven.
But concerning the resurrection

188
00:09:26,400 –> 00:09:29,200
of the dead, haven’t you read
that which was spoken to you by

189
00:09:29,200 –> 00:09:33,480
God, saying, I am the God of
Abraham, and the God of Isaac,

190
00:09:33,520 –> 00:09:36,600
and the God of Jacob?
God is not the God of the dead,

191
00:09:36,600 –> 00:09:39,240
but of the living.
When the multitudes heard it,

192
00:09:39,360 –> 00:09:41,080
they were astonished at His
teaching.

193
00:09:41,560 –> 00:09:44,120
But the Pharisees, when they
heard that He had silenced the

194
00:09:44,120 –> 00:09:46,400
Sadducees, gathered themselves
together.

195
00:09:46,680 –> 00:09:49,480
One of them, a lawyer, asked him
a question, testing him.

196
00:09:50,080 –> 00:09:52,360
Teacher, which is the greatest
commandment in the law?

197
00:09:52,600 –> 00:09:55,560
Jesus said to him, You shall
love the Lord your God with all

198
00:09:55,560 –> 00:09:58,040
your heart, with all your soul,
and with all your mind.

199
00:09:58,640 –> 00:10:00,640
This is the first and great
commandment.

200
00:10:01,040 –> 00:10:03,760
A second likewise is this.
You shall love your neighbor as

201
00:10:03,760 –> 00:10:06,120
yourself.
The whole law and the prophets

202
00:10:06,120 –> 00:10:07,800
depend on these two
commandments.

203
00:10:08,360 –> 00:10:11,360
Now while the Pharisees were
gathered together, Jesus asked

204
00:10:11,360 –> 00:10:14,240
them a question, saying, What do
you think of the Christ?

205
00:10:14,560 –> 00:10:17,320
Whose son is he?
They said to him of David.

206
00:10:17,840 –> 00:10:20,840
He said to them, how then does
David in the Spirit call him

207
00:10:20,840 –> 00:10:24,680
Lord, saying, the Lord said to
my Lord, sit on my right hand

208
00:10:24,920 –> 00:10:27,240
until I make your enemies a
footstool for your feet.

209
00:10:27,600 –> 00:10:30,520
If then David calls him Lord,
how is he his son?

210
00:10:31,120 –> 00:10:34,320
No one was able to answer him a
word, neither did any man dare

211
00:10:34,320 –> 00:10:36,760
ask him any more questions from
that day forward.
