“The words of a whisperer are like delicious morsels; they go down into the inner parts of the body. Whoever is slack in his work is brother to him who destroys.” — Proverbs 18:8–9 (ESV)

“David came to Nob to Ahimelek the priest. Ahimelek trembled when he met David and asked, ‘Why are you alone, and no one with you?’” — 1 Samuel 21:1 (ESV)

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” — Psalm 34:4; “When I am afraid, I put my trust in God.” — Psalm 56:3 (ESV)

Have you ever heard gossip or rumors about someone and felt like it spread instantly? Proverbs 18:8 warns that words can dig deep into our hearts, either to encourage or to harm. David’s story in 1 Samuel 21 shows that even when life feels tense or people doubt you, God provides protection and guidance. Psalm 34 and Psalm 56 remind us that when fear creeps in—whether from bullies, peer pressure, or uncertainty—we can turn to God and find courage. Words, choices, and trust all play a role in shaping how we handle the pressures around us.

Even in moments when people talk behind your back or life feels overwhelming, God’s presence and protection are constant. Choosing to speak life, work diligently, and trust God transforms fear into strength. Your words and actions can either build up or tear down—not just others, but yourself too.

THINK ABOUT IT

1. Watch Your Words: Are the things you say encouraging others or adding to the negativity (Proverbs 18:8) around you?

2. Trust God in Pressure: How can you rely on God’s protection and guidance when you feel scared or alone, like David did in 1 Samuel 21?

3. Courage Over Fear: When fear shows up in school, friendships, or family situations, how can putting your trust in God (Psalm 34:4; 56:3) change your response?

________________________________________

BOTTOM LINE

The words you hear, the words you speak, and the trust you place in God determine whether fear controls you or courage guides you.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for being my protector and my refuge when fear or gossip surrounds me. Help me to speak words that encourage, to work diligently, and to trust You completely even in scary situations. Teach me to rely on Your strength so that fear does not control my heart or actions. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

00:00:02,480 –> 00:00:05,800
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we
have devotional conversations

2
00:00:06,120 –> 00:00:11,000
rooted in Scripture and relevant
for today, June 19th.

3
00:00:11,520 –> 00:00:16,040
Words that matter.
Has a rumor ever gotten back to

4
00:00:16,040 –> 00:00:18,000
you?
Something that someone said

5
00:00:18,000 –> 00:00:20,840
about you that spread through
your friend group before you

6
00:00:20,840 –> 00:00:24,080
even knew what was happening?
There’s something about gossip

7
00:00:24,360 –> 00:00:26,720
that moves faster than almost
anything else.

8
00:00:27,240 –> 00:00:30,000
Proverbs chapter 18, verse 8
nails it.

9
00:00:30,440 –> 00:00:33,280
The words of a whisperer are
like delicious morsels.

10
00:00:33,480 –> 00:00:35,720
They go down into the inner
parts of the body.

11
00:00:36,360 –> 00:00:39,720
Gossip is appealing.
It feels like it tastes good in

12
00:00:39,720 –> 00:00:44,160
the moment, but it goes deep, it
sticks, and it does real damage

13
00:00:44,160 –> 00:00:47,840
to the person being talked about
and honestly to the person doing

14
00:00:47,840 –> 00:00:50,760
the talking.
David found himself in a

15
00:00:50,760 –> 00:00:54,800
situation in First Samuel,
chapter 21, where people were

16
00:00:54,800 –> 00:00:58,720
suspicious and afraid of him.
He was alone, out of context,

17
00:00:58,720 –> 00:01:01,600
and being watched.
Aheimlec, the priest, trembled

18
00:01:01,600 –> 00:01:04,400
when he saw him.
Why are you alone and no one

19
00:01:04,400 –> 00:01:07,240
with you?
Fear and uncertainty surrounded

20
00:01:07,240 –> 00:01:09,400
David.
He was walking through one of

21
00:01:09,400 –> 00:01:13,080
the most vulnerable seasons of
his life, fleeing, hiding,

22
00:01:13,520 –> 00:01:18,240
unsure of who he could trust.
And in those moments, Psalm 34,

23
00:01:18,240 –> 00:01:21,880
verse 4 became his anchor.
I sought the Lord, and He

24
00:01:21,880 –> 00:01:24,440
answered me and delivered me
from all my fears.

25
00:01:24,960 –> 00:01:29,600
And Psalm 56 verse 3 echoes it.
When I am afraid, I put my trust

26
00:01:29,600 –> 00:01:34,160
in God, not in public opinion,
not in his own strength or

27
00:01:34,160 –> 00:01:38,360
reputation, not in who was
talking about him or what rumors

28
00:01:38,360 –> 00:01:43,120
were circulating in God.
That’s such a clear path forward

29
00:01:43,120 –> 00:01:47,160
for all of us in a world where
words, especially online, can

30
00:01:47,160 –> 00:01:51,640
spread so fast and cut so deep.
When people are whispering, when

31
00:01:51,640 –> 00:01:54,760
fear starts creeping in, when
the pressure of what others

32
00:01:54,760 –> 00:01:58,840
think becomes overwhelming, the
response that actually works is

33
00:01:58,840 –> 00:02:02,080
to run toward God, not to keep
up with the noise.

34
00:02:03,000 –> 00:02:07,160
Proverbs also says in verse 9
that slacking in your work makes

35
00:02:07,160 –> 00:02:10,840
you a brother to destruction.
Half hearted effort and careless

36
00:02:10,840 –> 00:02:13,240
living invite their own kind of
chaos.

37
00:02:13,720 –> 00:02:16,840
How you work, how you speak, and
where you place your trust.

38
00:02:16,960 –> 00:02:20,080
These things are all connected.
Choose diligence.

39
00:02:20,520 –> 00:02:24,560
Choose life giving words.
Choose trust in God over trust

40
00:02:24,760 –> 00:02:27,080
in your own management of what
people think.

41
00:02:27,960 –> 00:02:31,760
Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father, thank you for

42
00:02:31,760 –> 00:02:34,240
being our refuge.
When fear and gossip surround

43
00:02:34,240 –> 00:02:37,880
us, help us to speak words that
build rather than whisper.

44
00:02:37,880 –> 00:02:40,840
Words that break.
When fear creeps in about our

45
00:02:40,840 –> 00:02:43,600
reputation, our relationships,
our future.

46
00:02:43,640 –> 00:02:47,200
Remind us of David’s prayer.
I sought you and you answered

47
00:02:47,200 –> 00:02:49,200
me.
We put our trust in you.

48
00:02:49,840 –> 00:02:53,320
Deliver us from fear and teach
us to live with courage and

49
00:02:53,320 –> 00:02:56,160
integrity.
In Jesus name, Amen.

50
00:02:58,400 –> 00:03:02,080
What if the road ahead is not
meant to be rushed, feared, or

51
00:03:02,160 –> 00:03:05,160
walked alone?
Going with God is a prayer

52
00:03:05,160 –> 00:03:08,480
script series for believers who
need more than encouragement for

53
00:03:08,480 –> 00:03:10,920
the journey.
They need prayer language for

54
00:03:10,920 –> 00:03:14,440
walking with the Lord in real
life, right where they are.

55

paths, provision, and

00:03:25,720 –> 00:03:27,800
with confidence over the road
before you.

with God invites you to move

Now I invite you to spend time

64
00:03:49,880 –> 00:03:52,400
with God in today’s three-year
Bible reading plan.

65
00:03:54,240 –> 00:03:56,840
Proverbs, chapter 18, verses 8
to 9.

66
00:03:57,240 –> 00:04:00,400
World English Bible.
The words of a gossip are like

67
00:04:00,400 –> 00:04:03,120
dainty morsels.
They go down into a person’s

68
00:04:03,120 –> 00:04:06,800
innermost parts.
One who is slack in his work is

69
00:04:06,800 –> 00:04:09,400
brother to him who is a master
of destruction.

70
00:04:09,960 –> 00:04:12,040
First Samuel.
Chapter 21.

71
00:04:12,280 –> 00:04:15,480
World English Bible.
Then David came to Knob to

72
00:04:15,480 –> 00:04:19,320
Aheimletch the priest.
Aheimletch came to meet David

73
00:04:19,320 –> 00:04:22,840
trembling, and said to him, Why
are you alone, and no man with

74
00:04:22,840 –> 00:04:25,160
you?
David said to Aheimletch the

75
00:04:25,160 –> 00:04:27,440
priest.
The king has commanded me to do

76
00:04:27,440 –> 00:04:31,800
something and has said to me,
let no one know anything about

77
00:04:31,800 –> 00:04:34,960
the business about which I send
you and what I have commanded

78
00:04:34,960 –> 00:04:37,480
you.
I have sent the young men to a

79
00:04:37,480 –> 00:04:40,000
certain place.
Now therefore what is under your

80
00:04:40,000 –> 00:04:44,760
hand, please give me 5 loaves of
bread in my hand or whatever is

81
00:04:44,760 –> 00:04:47,600
available.
The priest answered David and

82
00:04:47,600 –> 00:04:52,560
said, I have no common bread,
but there is holy bread, if only

83
00:04:52,560 –> 00:04:54,640
the young men have kept
themselves from women.

84
00:04:55,320 –> 00:04:59,120
David answered the priest and
said to him, Truly, women have

85
00:04:59,120 –> 00:05:01,520
been kept from us as usual these
three days.

86
00:05:02,520 –> 00:05:05,880
When I came out, the vessels of
the young men were holy, though

87
00:05:05,880 –> 00:05:09,960
it was only a common journey.
How much more than today shall

88
00:05:09,960 –> 00:05:13,160
their vessels be holy?
So the priest gave him holy

89
00:05:13,160 –> 00:05:16,320
bread, for there was no bread
there, but the show bread that

90
00:05:16,320 –> 00:05:20,520
was taken from before Yahweh to
put hot bread in the day when it

91
00:05:20,520 –> 00:05:23,640
was taken away.
Now a certain man of the

92
00:05:23,640 –> 00:05:27,840
servants of Saul was there that
day, detained before Yahweh, and

93
00:05:27,840 –> 00:05:31,040
his name was Doge the Edomite,
the best of the herdsmen who

94
00:05:31,040 –> 00:05:35,200
belonged to Saul.
David said to Ahem, Lech, isn’t

95
00:05:35,200 –> 00:05:37,320
there here under your hand,
spear or sword?

96
00:05:38,360 –> 00:05:40,960
For I have neither brought my
sword nor my weapons with me,

97
00:05:41,160 –> 00:05:43,560
because the King’s business
required haste.

98
00:05:44,120 –> 00:05:47,880
The priest said, Behold, the
sword of Goliath, the Philistine

99
00:05:48,920 –> 00:05:52,240
whom you killed in the valley of
Allah is here wrapped in a cloth

100
00:05:52,240 –> 00:05:55,440
behind the ephod.
If you would like to take that,

101
00:05:55,440 –> 00:05:59,440
take it, for there is no other
except that here David said,

102
00:05:59,600 –> 00:06:02,520
there is none like that, give it
to me.

103
00:06:02,920 –> 00:06:06,400
David arose and fled that day
for fear of Saul, and went to

104
00:06:06,400 –> 00:06:09,680
Achish the king of Gath.
The servants of Achish said to

105
00:06:09,680 –> 00:06:12,080
him, Isn’t this David, the king
of the land?

106
00:06:13,120 –> 00:06:16,280
Didn’t they sing to one another
about him, and dances, saying,

107
00:06:16,560 –> 00:06:19,840
Saul has slain his thousands,
and David his ten thousands?

108
00:06:20,440 –> 00:06:24,640
David laid up these words in his
heart, and was very afraid of a

109
00:06:24,640 –> 00:06:28,600
Chish, the king of Gath.
He changed his behavior before

110
00:06:28,600 –> 00:06:32,440
them and pretended to be insane
in their hands, and scribbled on

111
00:06:32,440 –> 00:06:35,520
the doors of the gate, and let
his spittle fall down on his

112
00:06:35,520 –> 00:06:38,040
beard.
Then a Chish said to his

113
00:06:38,040 –> 00:06:41,000
servants, Look, you see the man
is insane.

114
00:06:41,400 –> 00:06:42,920
Why then have you brought him to
me?

115
00:06:43,360 –> 00:06:46,120
Do I lack Mad Men that you have
brought this fellow to play the

116
00:06:46,120 –> 00:06:49,600
madman in my presence?
Should this fellow come into my

117
00:06:49,600 –> 00:06:52,000
house?
Psalm chapter 34.

118
00:06:52,120 –> 00:06:54,960
World English Bible.
I will bless Yahweh at all

119
00:06:54,960 –> 00:06:57,280
times.
His praise will always be in my

120
00:06:57,280 –> 00:06:59,880
mouth.
My soul shall boast in Yahweh.

121
00:07:00,920 –> 00:07:02,800
The humble shall hear of it and
be glad.

122
00:07:03,240 –> 00:07:06,840
O magnify Yahweh with me, Let’s
exalt His name together.

123
00:07:07,280 –> 00:07:10,640
I sought Yahweh and He answered
me and delivered me from all my

124
00:07:10,640 –> 00:07:13,480
fears.
They look to Him and were

125
00:07:13,480 –> 00:07:15,760
radiant.
Their faces shall never be

126
00:07:15,760 –> 00:07:19,240
covered with shame.
This poor man cried, and Yahweh

127
00:07:19,240 –> 00:07:21,680
heard him and saved him out of
all his troubles.

128
00:07:22,680 –> 00:07:26,160
Yahweh’s Angel encamps around
those who fear Him and delivers

129
00:07:26,160 –> 00:07:28,840
them.
Oh, taste and see that Yahweh is

130
00:07:28,840 –> 00:07:31,040
good.
Blessed is the man who takes

131
00:07:31,040 –> 00:07:34,800
refuge in him.
O fear Yahweh, you his Saints,

132
00:07:35,080 –> 00:07:37,120
for there is no lack with those
who fear Him.

133
00:07:37,680 –> 00:07:40,880
The Young Lions do lack and
suffer hunger, but those who

134
00:07:40,880 –> 00:07:43,080
seek Yahweh shall not lack any
good thing.

135
00:07:44,080 –> 00:07:47,680
Come you children, listen to me.
I will teach you the fear of

136
00:07:47,680 –> 00:07:50,920
Yahweh, who is someone who
desires life and loves many

137
00:07:50,920 –> 00:07:54,880
days, that he may see good.
Keep your tongue from evil and

138
00:07:54,880 –> 00:07:58,440
your lips from speaking lies.
Depart from evil and do good.

139
00:07:58,680 –> 00:08:02,000
Seek peace and pursue it.
Yahweh’s eyes are toward the

140
00:08:02,000 –> 00:08:04,560
righteous.
His ears listen to their cry.

141
00:08:05,640 –> 00:08:09,000
Yahweh’s face is against those
who do evil to cut off their

142
00:08:09,000 –> 00:08:12,360
memory from the earth.
The righteous cry and Yahweh

143
00:08:12,360 –> 00:08:15,080
hears and delivers them out of
all their troubles.

144
00:08:16,080 –> 00:08:19,720
Yahweh is near to those who have
a broken heart and saves those

145
00:08:19,720 –> 00:08:23,000
who have a crushed spirit.
Many are the afflictions of the

146
00:08:23,000 –> 00:08:25,720
righteous, but Yahweh delivers
Him out of them all.

147
00:08:26,720 –> 00:08:29,960
He protects all of His bones.
Not one of them is broken.

148
00:08:30,320 –> 00:08:33,280
Evil shall kill the wicked.
Those who hate the righteous

149
00:08:33,280 –> 00:08:36,280
shall be condemned.
Yahweh redeems the soul of His

150
00:08:36,280 –> 00:08:39,280
servants.
None of those who take refuge in

151
00:08:39,280 –> 00:08:42,520
Him shall be condemned.
Psalm chapter 56.

152
00:08:42,799 –> 00:08:46,400
World English Bible.
Be merciful to me God, for man

153
00:08:46,400 –> 00:08:48,920
wants to swallow me up all day
long.

154
00:08:48,920 –> 00:08:53,200
He attacks and oppresses me.
My enemies want to swallow me up

155
00:08:53,200 –> 00:08:56,520
all day long, for they are many
who fight proudly against me.

156
00:08:57,040 –> 00:08:59,080
When I am afraid.
I will put my trust in you.

157
00:08:59,560 –> 00:09:03,280
In God I praise his word.
In God I put my trust.

158
00:09:04,320 –> 00:09:07,000
I will not be afraid.
What can flesh do to me?

159
00:09:07,200 –> 00:09:09,040
All day long they twist my
words.

160
00:09:09,320 –> 00:09:10,560
All their thoughts are against
me.

161
00:09:10,560 –> 00:09:14,520
For evil they conspire and lurk.
Watching my steps, they are

162
00:09:14,520 –> 00:09:18,400
eager to take my life.
Shall they escape by iniquity?

163
00:09:18,760 –> 00:09:20,960
In anger cast down the people’s
God?

164
00:09:21,120 –> 00:09:24,440
You count my wanderings, You put
my tears into your container.

165
00:09:24,760 –> 00:09:28,320
Aren’t they in your book?
Then my enemies shall turn back

166
00:09:28,320 –> 00:09:31,800
in the day that I call.
I know this, that God is for me.

167
00:09:32,040 –> 00:09:35,520
In God I will praise His word.
In Yahweh I will praise His

168
00:09:35,520 –> 00:09:37,720
word.
I have put my trust in God.

169
00:09:38,760 –> 00:09:41,400
I will not be afraid.
What can man do to me?

170
00:09:41,680 –> 00:09:44,560
Your vows are on me, God.
I will give thank offerings to

171
00:09:44,560 –> 00:09:49,120
you, for you have delivered my
soul from death and prevented my

172
00:09:49,120 –> 00:09:52,600
feet from falling, that I may
walk before God in the light of

173
00:09:52,600 –> 00:09:56,680
the living.
